The carnival came to AgeCare Sunrise Gardens (Brooks, AB) for an afternoon of games, treats and plenty of fun! 🎪

Residents enjoyed carnival favourites including corn dogs, cotton candy, ice cream and refreshing drinks before trying their hand at a variety of games and activities. A tattoo booth added another playful stop to the afternoon.

Thank you to the Sunrise Gardens team for putting together a fun change of pace for residents and making the community feel like its own carnival for the day!

Clean hands are one of the simplest ways we can help protect one another. 🧼

On Global Handwashing Day, AgeCare is recognizing the role good hand hygiene plays in reducing the spread of germs and supporting the health of residents, team members, families and visitors.
In long-term care, small everyday actions matter. Washing hands thoroughly and at the right times is a shared responsibility that helps create safer communities for everyone.

Today is a good reminder to keep this simple habit top of mind, not just today, but throughout the year.

A thoughtful welcome, made by residents for their newest neighbours. 💙

Members of the Welcome Committee at AgeCare Woodhaven (Markham, ON) have been putting together personalized baskets for new residents joining the community. Each basket includes items chosen with the individual in mind, such as crossword puzzles, activities, toiletries and a few treats.

It’s a simple way for residents to help someone new feel more comfortable and connected as they settle into their new home.

✨ Celebrating Our People ✨

Meet Barb Murphy, Senior Director at AgeCare Ontario Office (Mississauga, ON).

Barb’s career in long-term care began at just 14 years old, when an after-school job providing personal care to residents introduced her to work that would shape the decades ahead.

She went on to become a registered nurse, Director of Care and consultant before moving into her current role, supporting AgeCare homes across Ontario with policy, quality and risk oversight. Her experience working directly with residents continues to inform how she approaches decisions, with careful consideration for safety, quality of life and the realities of day-to-day operations.

Barb also looks to the knowledge of teams working within AgeCare communities, particularly when navigating changing regulations, complex care needs and opportunities for improvement.

Thank you, Barb, for bringing your years of experience to supporting AgeCare teams and the residents and families they serve. 💙

For World Mental Health Day, AgeCare is recognizing a simple but important message: mental health is part of our health at every age. 💙

Older adults can experience anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness and other mental health challenges, just as people do at any stage of life. These experiences deserve to be heard and taken seriously.

Supporting mental health means creating space for people to talk about how they’re feeling, listening without assumptions and helping connect them with support when it’s needed. Families, care teams and communities can all play a role in making those conversations easier.

Today is a reminder that there is no age limit on talking about mental health, seeking support or feeling understood.

AgeCare Woodhaven (Markham, ON) recently celebrated residents with special recognition from the Ontario Long Term Care Association. 💙

The presentation was an opportunity to recognize residents and the contributions they make to life at Woodhaven, while celebrating the important role residents play within their long-term care communities.

Woodhaven was pleased to welcome Councillor Andrew Keyes and Michael Segree from MPP Paul Calandra’s office, who joined the community to help present the recognition to residents.

Congratulations to everyone recognized, and thank you to our guests for joining residents and team members for the celebration!

Music filled AgeCare Trilogy (Scarborough, ON) as the resident Glee Club took the stage for a special performance! 🎶

Residents shared their love of music with an audience of family members, fellow residents, team members and volunteers, making for an afternoon filled with familiar songs and plenty of smiles.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the performers, and congratulations to the Glee Club residents who put their time and talent into the performance.

Today, with the support of Minister Nathan Neudorf, AgeCare officially opened the AgeCare Innovation Lab at AgeCare Seton (Calgary, AB), a living lab where new technology can be explored within a fully operating continuing care community.

Developed in partnership with Mount Royal University’s School of Nursing and Midwifery and the AgeCare Research Chair in Aging, the Lab will support research, pilot programs and the testing of AI, robotics and automation designed for continuing care.

The focus is not technology for technology’s sake. It is about exploring tools that can support care teams, improve the quality and efficiency of care and services, and give employees more time to focus on the people they care for.

Residents and team members will be an important part of that work. Ideas will be tested in a real care environment, supported by research and reviewed through the new AgeCare Innovation Steering Committee before being put into practice. Safety, dignity and quality of care remain central to the process.

AgeCare has spent the past 18 months researching and building partnerships in AI, automation and robotics, while more than 200 AgeCare leaders have received training and education to help build knowledge within the organization.

Today’s opening is an important next step in that work, and an opportunity to learn alongside residents, employees, researchers, partners and the broader continuing care sector.

Because even as technology changes, care remains human.

Something new is opening at AgeCare Seton (Calgary, AB) this morning. 👀

The AgeCare Innovation Lab will create a space to explore how AI, robotics and automation can support the future of continuing care, while keeping people at the centre of care.

Today marks the beginning, and we’ll be sharing more from the official opening later today.
