The longer the stay, the better the chance for life-long sobriety

Founded in 1995, Oxford House Foundation of Canada is a non-profit organization that provides self-run, peer-supported sober recovery homes for men and women who have a history of substance abuse and are homeless or at risk of homelessness. By providing

a safe and stable environment where men and women can focus on their recovery, Oxford House supports individuals to develop the skills necessary for self-sufficiency and successful reintegration back into society. Oxford House has 28 recovery homes operating in Calgary, Drumheller and Edmonton. When men and women in recovery come to Oxford House, they have already taken some important steps on their road to recovery. They’re ready to work hard. They know they’ll get out what they put in. And when they take the next step to live in an Oxford Home, they know we’ll support them. Because we’ve been there and know how important this step is. Recovery without relapse is possible in an Oxford home. Each home forms its own family and is situated in a suburban neighbourhood away from danger areas. The peer support of other residents in the house who have experienced many of the same difficulties is a benefit to our residents. They find understanding and hope while learning how to live with life’s challenges.

We are so grateful for Dollar A Day’s support of Oxford House. Thank you for the huge difference you are making.

On International Overdose Awareness Day, we remember those who have lost their lives to drug poisoning and raise awareness about how we can help prevent fatal outcomes.

At A Dollar A Day, we support frontline programs that provide vital care to people living with substance use disorder, including Oxford House Foundation and ROAR (Rainbow Outpatient Addiction Recovery), delivered in partnership with Our Own Health Centre.

Too many lives are lost to overdose, but together we can work toward a future where support is accessible to everyone and no life is cut short by overdose.

Sometimes in life, we reach a place where the path we’re on is no longer leading us where we want to go. In recovery, those moments can become powerful turning points.

If we keep doing the same things, surrounding ourselves with the same influences, and making the same choices, we can’t expect a different outcome.

Recovery begins with the courage to stop, reflect, and choose a new direction. It takes humility to recognize when something isn’t working and strength to take the first step toward change.

A turning point can happen at any moment. The road ahead may look unfamiliar, but it can lead to a life filled with hope, connection, and purpose. ❤️

Embracing Healing and Love

"Once I was in a place to face myself, my trauma, and my shame, the healing process began. I learned to love. Not only myself but others. The greatest gift I've ever given myself is my dedication to my recovery." – Earl Thiessen

These words resonate deeply with the journey of self-discovery and growth that many of us embark upon. Choosing the path of recovery is like unwrapping the most precious gift you can ever give yourself.

Recovery isn't just about overcoming challenges; it's about reclaiming your true self, embracing your strengths, and finding the courage to confront your past. It's a journey that leads to self-love, acceptance, and a profound understanding of your own resilience.

In the process of recovery, you're not only healing your wounds but also learning to extend compassion and empathy to others. Your dedication to recovery becomes a beacon of hope, inspiring those around you to embark on their own journeys of transformation.

So let's celebrate the incredible gift of recovery that we've bestowed upon ourselves. Let's honour the progress we've made and the obstacles we've overcome. By choosing recovery, we're choosing a life filled with authenticity, purpose, and boundless love.

Remember, you are worthy of this gift, and your journey is a testament to your strength. Keep shining, keep healing, and keep spreading love.

We’re feeling incredibly grateful today!

We’re getting ready to open a second women’s pre-treatment house in Calgary! This morning, we scoped out the new home and started planning how we’ll set it up and get it ready to welcome new clients by September.

More space means more women will have the opportunity to find safety, support and a strong foundation for their recovery journey. What a wonderful thing to be part of!

A big thank you to the amazing team making this possible. Featured in the photo are Toni, Alisia, Josie and Cameron and Vince (not in photo)—thank you for all that you do!

We can’t wait to see this new home come to life!

Yesterday was one of those days that reminds us just how special our Oxford House family really is.

We gathered with some of our Calgary staff and our newer Edmonton staff to celebrate two very special milestones: Dana’s birthday and Al’s retirement.

There’s something pretty wonderful about coming together to celebrate the people who make Oxford House what it is. There was laughter, good food, plenty of stories, and that feeling of being part of something bigger than ourselves.

Al, thank you for your service, your dedication, and all that you’ve contributed to Oxford House.

As you head into this next chapter, we wish you endless rounds of golf, beautiful weather, and absolutely no work emails! ⛳️😂 You’ve earned it!

And Dana, Happy Birthday! 🎉

May this next year bring you plenty of joy, laughter, adventure, and may all your dreams come true.

We are grateful for days like these and for the people who make this Oxford House family so special. ❤️

Here’s to celebrating each other—because life is better when we do it together! 🥰
