A dementia diagnosis does not define a person.

Behind every individual is a lifetime of experiences, relationships, achievements, passions, memories, and moments that have shaped who they are.

At Aruga, we believe great dementia care starts by seeing the whole person, not just the diagnosis. By taking the time to understand each individual's history, interests, preferences, and strengths, we create meaningful opportunities for connection, engagement, and joy.

Our specialized dementia care supports not only physical well-being, but emotional well-being too. Through compassionate care, creative engagement, and person-centred support, we help individuals continue to experience purpose, connection, and meaningful moments each day.

Because every story matters, and every person deserves to be seen, heard, and celebrated.

The impact of caregiving is rarely measured by tasks completed. It is found in the trust that is built, the comfort that is felt, and the relationships that grow over time.

To our caregivers and staff, thank you for the professionalism, compassion, and dedication you bring each day. Your commitment to exceptional care helps seniors feel valued, families feel supported, and every client feel connected.

The difference you make is extraordinary, and we are grateful for all that you do.

We are proud to share that Aruga Home Care Founder and Care and Creative Director, Ali Cada, recently presented at the American Society on Aging On Aging Conference alongside collaborators from Opening Minds through Art (OMA) and Hilarity for Charity (HFC).

The presentation, Creative Care at Home: Visual Art Kits to Support Connection and Well-being, highlighted an innovative project designed to bring meaningful creative engagement opportunities to individuals living with dementia and their care partners at home. The pilot program reached participants across 18 U.S. states and three Canadian provinces, demonstrating how creativity can foster connection, purpose, and joy.

As more people choose to age at home, innovative approaches like these are helping create new opportunities for connection, creativity, and well-being for individuals living with dementia and their loved ones.

Sometimes it’s not the big changes that loved ones notice first. It’s the little things.

A few more missed phone calls. Less interest in favourite activities. Meals becoming simpler. Changes in routine becoming more noticeable.

Many families assume home care is only needed when physical assistance becomes necessary, but the need for support often starts much earlier.

Recognizing subtle changes can help families find the right support before challenges begin to feel overwhelming and help preserve independence, connection, and quality of life along the way.

Our newest blog post explores some of the early signs families may notice and helps provide guidance on when additional support may help.

Many families assume home care begins only when physical assistance is needed, but the signs often appear much earlier. From changes in routine and social isolation to caregiver stress, recognizing these subtle shifts can help families provide support before challenges become overwhelming.

There is something incredibly meaningful about finding the right caregiver relationship. It goes far beyond support with daily tasks. It is about trust, understanding, and knowing someone is there to truly meet your loved one where they are.

We’re grateful to be part of moments like this.

A recent study highlighted by NPR found that engaging in the arts and creative activities may help slow biological aging.

Researchers observed that individuals who regularly participated in activities such as music, painting, storytelling, theatre, dance, and other creative experiences showed slower rates of biological aging compared to those who did not.

At Aruga, this reinforces something we strongly believe in.

Creative engagement is not simply an “extra” in senior care. Meaningful connection through music, art, movement, conversation, storytelling, and shared experiences can have a profound impact on emotional well-being, identity, dignity, and quality of life.

As conversations around aging and dementia care continue to evolve, research like this is an important reminder that supporting the whole person matters.

This article speaks closely to our mission and the future of compassionate, human-centred care.

Eat well and exercise. That's the classic advice for living a long, healthy life. A new study suggests another habit to add to the list: Let your creative juices flow.
