Help us welcome Dr. Lafreniere to Countryside Vision Care!
Dr. Shanine Lafreniere grew up on a farm near the hamlet of Mallaig, Alberta. She developed a passion for optometry when she needed her first pair of glasses as a teen, and felt a career helping people improve their vision and preserving their eye health would be rewarding and impactful. She pursued her undergraduate studies at the University of Alberta and completed her Doctorate of Optometry at the University of Waterloo in 2008. Her husband is a member of the RCMP, and Dr Lafreniere followed him to his first posting in Surrey BC where she practiced for 5 years. The birth of their first daughter brought them back to Alberta, where they set down roots in Fort Saskatchewan and added 3 more kiddos to the mix.
When she is not in the clinic, you will most likely find Dr. Lafreniere chasing after her 4 kids activities in hockey rinks, ball diamonds, and volleyball courts. And depending on the season, out at the family farm pitching in on any task; from tagging calves to cleaning bins to picking rocks….so many rocks. If the stars align, she can even be found camping and fishing, or hiding out in her garden trying to figure out why she can’t grow carrots.
Dr. Lafreniere and Dr. Starko practiced together in Fort Saskatchewan, and Dr. Lafreniere is very excited to be working alongside Dr. Starko again at Countryside Vision Care. She is grateful for the opportunity to serve the community of Calmar and surrounding area.
