If you are a widowed parent, this conversation is for you.

When your spouse or partner dies, your child has lost a parent too. And while you are carrying your own grief, you may also be trying to understand what your child needs, what they are feeling, and what they may carry into adulthood.

A child’s grief does not always look like adult grief. They may seem okay one moment and fall apart the next. They may not have the words yet. But the adults around them can become a powerful source of safety, meaning, and repair.

Join David Kessler and Hope Edelman for a free online conversation about early parent loss, what children often carry after the death of a parent, and how surviving parents and caring adults can help protect them emotionally.

This is not only for adults who lost a parent in childhood.

It is for your child now, the one who had to say goodbye too soon.

Grief can be both complicated and confusing. And sometimes the many faces of grief don't always make sense.

One of the things I hear often from grievers is how challenging it is when a loved one is grieving differently than they are - for the same person or the same loss. This is common and it can lead to frustrations, confusion, and even isolation.

Recently, a woman who was grieving the death of her son shared how lonely she felt in her own home. She shared that her husband won't talk about their son and often keeps to himself. She was struggling to understand why he doesn't cry and seems to have moved on while she cries every day and feels stuck.

This scenario is common. It's important to remember that everyone grieves differently. It's personal and there are so many variables that can impact how a person grieves. There is no right or wrong way to grieve and while challenging at times, it's important that people are allowed to grieve in whatever way feels most comfortable for them. Even when it's for the same person or the same loss.

I know this can be difficult and yes it can lead to frustrations, confusion, and feeling misunderstood and alone. Give yourself grace and remember you are not doing anything wrong. Find someone you can talk to. Someone who will validate your feelings and help to normalize your experience even when it's different from someone who is sitting in the same room. It can also be helpful for you and your loved ones to talk to someone together.

I know there's nothing easy about any of this and please know my heart is filled with compassion for you. I'm here to listen when things feel confusing, lonely, or difficult.

With love - michele
