✨Freedom Friday: Showing Up for Yourself Matters💙

One of the best ways I know to show up for myself is to get on my mat, to hold myself in stillness (supported by props is even better), and to focus on breathing deeply. Restorative practices such as these are now proven in studies to have so many benefits, like:

💙 Shifting the nervous system from “fight-or-flight” (sympathetic) to “rest-and-digest” (parasympathetic)
💙 Active Recovery - Allowing sore or tense muscles to soften completely without muscular effort. (Making it perfect for counterbalancing high-intensity workouts, as it reduces inflammation and soothes sore muscles).
💙 Deep Stress & Anxiety Relief - Eases racing minds.
💙Relaxation - Slows heart rate naturally.
💙 Decreases cortisol levels to effectively combat daily overwhelm (especially during hormonal imbalance times like puberty, perimenopause and menopause)
💙 Improved Sleep Quality
💙 Pain management- relaxes the physical body, offers passive stretching and deep release, and reduces discomfort associated with conditions like headaches, back pain, fibromyalgia and joint stiffness
💙 Enhanced Flexibility - connective tissues and muscles open up with support

Curious? Need some of this therapy yourself?
Join me at Precision Pilates .by.jo on Saturday, June 13th to experience “Be Restored”, a 60 minute restorative class to experience all the above benefits.

✨ Mindful Mondays

As someone who lives in the Pacific Northwest and suffers from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), I know the importance of getting outside at the earliest opportunity after a long winter.

Yes, we live in a temperate climate, but sometimes the cold and the wet of BC is just too much for my body (with fibromyalgia) to be able to deal with, so when the warmth of the sun returns, I am the first one outside!

And bonus: studies now show that there are numerous scientific benefits to being outside! So why not take your practice outside this spring and summer. If you’re in or come practice with me!

June I am leading Sunset Stretch, a 60 minute class of mindful movement, stretching, strength building and mobility. Classes are Monday evenings, starting next week, from 630-730 pm, to help you wind down your day. Individual classes are only $13 per person or join me for all four classes for only $40!

(Be Restored is also available one last time before September if you’d rather enjoy one more indoor class and need some assistance resetting your nervous system).

Links to sign up are in my bio.

July and August will bring the return of StandUp Paddleboard (SUP) classes. Stay tuned for morning SUP Stretch & evening SUP Meditation.

Which one are you looking forward to most? Drop it in the comments for me. Or suggest a new class?

🏔️ Outdoor classes are back! 🌿

If you’ve been following my account for a while now you know that I love to get out in the great outdoors - that’s why two of my brand emojis are a 🏔️ and 🌊. Being outside is so nourishing to our bodies, to our breath and to our nervous system and this area that we live in, in the Fraser Valley is so rich with places for us to reset and release.

There’s also something very special about slowing down at the end of the day. To allow ourselves the opportunity to breathe deeply, to move gently, and to allow ourselves to release the stress we’ve been carrying.

Join me for Sunset Stretches in the Park, a gentle outdoor wellness class designed to help you reconnect with your body, calm your nervous system, and create space for rest and renewal, in community with others. These classes will include intentional and mindful movement, gentle passive and active stretching, breathwork, and restorative moments as we move with the rhythm of the evening. It’s the perfect way to wind down for the day.

Here are your options for classes:

✨ Individual classes $13/class
✨ Pre-register for the month! 4-class pass: $40

Bring your mat, a water bottle, and a cozy layer for the cooler evening air. 💙

Drop a comment and I’ll DM you the location details.

🌸 Mindful Monday: Love and Loss 🌷

“When it comes right down to it, our entire messy, elaborate lives are a dance of letting go, of loving, and of losing.” (Deanna Barnhardt Kawatski - Wilderness Mother) 🙏

The last five weeks have seemed to last a lifetime. What began with much needed rest, family time and adventure, turned our attention to a fall from an aging parent, regular hospital (then hospice) visits, and processing being present to witness the sacredness of a last breath. To make it officially poignant, on the one year anniversary of losing our beloved youngest dog, we officially said “see you soon” to our beloved family member.

And yet, this is life.
It is beautiful.
And it is brutal.
And the two can happen at the same time.

Life is all about making efforts to learn from every experience.
To love those around you. (Even when they’re difficult)
And to be mindful of the lessons along the way….

Life lessons, life and love, letting go, acts of surrender, grief and loss, the sandwich generation, mindful moments, taking the time you need, love and loss, mindful Monday, yoga off the mat, being mindful, mindfulness, aging parents, mindful not mindfull.

☕️ Right now, I’m getting by on coffee, prayers, and a little bit of Jesus after a death in our family. And honestly, sometimes that’s sufficient for this moment.

There are seasons where survival looks different. Routines shift, emotions can feel heavy, and we lean on the simple things that help carry us through the day, like caffeine. It may not be sustainable forever, but grace reminds us that not every season is meant to look balanced or polished. There’s a reason that I say we have to allow ourselves to “Sit in the sh*t”. (It’s in order to allow us to heal). And until we can, caffeine, prayers and Jesus gets us through it 🫣

So if you’re in a hard season too, give yourself permission to just get through today. Coffee in hand. And when we’re able and ready, the strength of our Creator meets us gently in the middle of our grief, our exhaustion, and our healing. 🤍

Feeling this yourself? Drop me a 💙 in the comments. Have more time? Drop me a few words of encouragement 🙏 Ill read them with appreciation ❤️

Grief and loss, the power of caffeine, death is a part of life, a long week, encouragement, thank you Jesus.

✨Transformational Thursdays ✨

Spring WAKES us from Winters cold slumber. And the temptation is to run outside, burst through the doors, throw open the windows and drink it all in. I get it! I’m that girl too.

The problem is that in our effort to fling ourselves into this new season (and take it all in), we lose sight of the need to enter it slowly and intentionally. To remember what’s important, to set aside our desire to do EVERYTHING - And often, all at once….exhausting us yet again.

Mark Buchanan says it best in his book Spiritual Rhythym:

“…all of it, fragrance and scent alike, are part of Spring’s magic. They are Spring’s raw apparatus to ring our bell shake us loose, call us out. What sleeps in winter wakes in spring, loud and urgent….the first activity of Spring is to wake up. It’s to get up. It’s the plunge in - all senses wide.”

So enjoy the wake up of Spring. But avoid the temptation to take it in so quickly and deeply you exhaust yourself with activity. I encourage you to find a seasonal rhythm to see you into the new season that is life giving and nourishing. And then take the time to sip it in, enjoying all of the beauty around you.

Spring, spiritual rhythms, temptation, spring awakens us, seasonal rhythms, spring activities, today’s encouragement, transformation, transformative Thursdays, transformation takes time, Canadian girl.

✨ Sorry I can’t talk right now… I’m in therapy ✨

Not the kind with a couch and a clipboard… the kind where I finally get quiet enough to hear myself again. Stillness. Solitude. Breath. In a world that rewards constant output, choosing to pause can feel uncomfortable… even unfamiliar. But your nervous system doesn’t heal in the noise—it heals in the slow, gentle moments where you allow yourself to soften, to feel, and to simply be.

Therapy doesn’t always look like talking. Sometimes it’s sitting in silence with your hand on your heart. Sometimes it’s stepping away from the chaos for a few intentional breaths. Sometimes it’s giving yourself permission to rest without needing to earn it. These small, quiet practices aren’t indulgent… they’re essential. They regulate your body, calm your mind, and guide you back to a place of safety and connection within yourself.

If your body is asking for this kind of care, I invite you to join me for Be Restored—a 60-minute class this Saturday designed to gently support your nervous system through stillness, breath, and rest. A space to step away, soften, and simply receive. 🤍
