Tomorrow is June 6th, Blue Jean Jacket Day! 💙

Wear a blue jean jacket to honour our Men and show our love and support!

June 6th is Blue Jean Jacket Day , it is a day to acknowledge and honour our Missing and Murdered Indigenous Men and Boys. This day of honouring began in Edmonton Alberta in 2023 to raise awareness, demand justice, and to bring attention to the issues of systemic violence faced by our Indigenous men and boys.

Our men and boys deserve justice, love, compassion, and the opportunity to heal, grow, and to walk the land safely, and without fear.

Today we remember their names and demand justice. Wear a blue jean jacket to show your love, support, and commitment to finding answers and bringing them home.

Happy Pride Month to all of our 🪶2SLGBTQIA+ 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ relatives!

This month and everyday of the year we honour you and acknowledge the immense courage it takes to live authentically in a world that still pushes back. We understand the importance of listening to your lived experiences and learn from the historic trailblazers who fought and continue to fight for basic human rights.

As allies, we commit to use our voices and privileges to interrupt discrimination, dismantle barriers, and advocate for spaces where everyone can thrive without fear. Let this month be a celebration of love, resilience, and identity.

Together, we are stronger, and together, we stand in solidarity.

Ode’imini Giizis - Heart Berry Moon (Strawberry Moon) or June represents creation, connection, and reconciliation and is one of the most spiritually significant times of the year. The Heart Berry symbolizes life and health and is the first wild fruit to ripen in the summer, representing the sweetness of life after the cold months.

The Strawberry is a medicine that is used to purify the blood and heal the physical heart and is also used to heal emotional wounds and restore balance. It brings opportunities for ‘Forgiveness and Reflection’. It is a time for self-reflection, letting go of past hurts, and practicing forgiveness within families and communities.

🦬🦅 June is Indigenous History Month 🦅🦬

To honor Indigenous History Month, one could explore local lands, attend cultural events, and engage with Indigenous-led media.

It is a time to celebrate First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures, and to take meaningful action toward truth and reconciliation.

Ways to get involved include:

1. Understand the land: Learn about the traditional territory where you live using the Native-Land.ca interactive map.

2. Attend community gatherings: Experience vibrant local culture by attending powwows, film screenings, or art festivals. In Edmonton, look out for events at the Art Gallery of Alberta or community-led celebrations for National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21.

3. Learn through free courses: Enroll in the foundational Indigenous Canada program offered online by the University of Alberta to better understand local and national histories.

4. Support Indigenous businesses: Buy books, art, and crafts directly from Indigenous creators. You can also discover local Indigenous-owned shops and tourism experiences through Indigenous Tourism Alberta.

5. Read, listen, and watch: Seek out stories directly from First Nations, Inuit, and Métis voices. Stream Indigenous-made documentaries on the National Film Board of Canada or listen to podcasts like or or (just to name a few)

Waabigoni Giizis - Blossom Moon or May represents renewal, birth, and the return of life to the earth. This moon reminds community of how beautiful and fragile life is.

Just as flowers open up to receive the sun, we as humans are encouraged to open our hearts to each other and spiritual growth. Marking the end of the winters scarcity and celebrates the return of migratory birds and nesting of animals.
