Ever wonder what actually happens during an IASTM (Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization) session? 🤔

If you’ve ever felt like a spot in your shoulder or hamstring is completely "glued down," this targeted treatment is a game-changer. Here is exactly what you can expect during a focused session:

1️⃣ The Assessment & Spot-Check
We start by moving the joint and feeling the tissue to pinpoint exactly where things feel restricted, tight, or "gritty."
2️⃣ The Warm-Up Massage 💆‍♀️
No cold tools on cold muscles! Before any instruments are introduced, we always start with a traditional manual massage. This boosts local blood flow, warms up the tissue, and relaxes the superficial muscles so we can reach the deeper layers safely.
3️⃣ Targeted Tool Work (Max 5 Mins Per Zone) 🛠️
After applying a smooth glide lotion, the specialized tool is introduced. The bevelled edge acts like a tuning fork, helping to precisely find and smooth out deep fascial restrictions. Because this technique is incredibly effective, we keep it highly focused—spending a maximum of 5 minutes per specific area (like the hamstrings, biceps, or rotator cuff) to prevent over-treating the tissue.
4️⃣ The Soothing Flush ✨
We finish the session by wiping away the lotion and using gentle, manual massage strokes to flush out the area, calm the nervous system, and kickstart the healing process.

What does it feel like? You’ll feel a distinct "gravelly" sensation as the tool glides over restrictions. While it can be intense, it is always kept within your comfort zone! Mild, temporary redness is completely normal and just means healthy new circulation is rushing to the area.

IASTM bookings will be applied to my site once I feel comfortable enough with this new skill!

Massage therapy should NEVER feel like you have to “survive” it.

There’s a big difference between therapeutic discomfort and actual pain. Some areas may feel tender, tight, or “good sore” while being worked on — but your body should still feel relaxed and able to breathe through it.

Signs the pressure may be TOO much:
• You’re holding your breath
• Your muscles are tightening or guarding
• You’re clenching your jaw, hands, or toes
• You feel sharp, shooting, or burning pain
• You leave feeling bruised, exhausted, or flared up for days afterward

A common misconception is that “deeper is better,” but when pressure is too intense, your body can actually resist the treatment by tightening up and protecting itself. That means the massage may not be as effective as intended.

The best massage is one that works WITH your nervous system, not against it. Communication is always welcome during your treatment — pressure can be adjusted at any time. 💆‍♀️

☀️ SUMMER SCHEDULES ARE HERE ☀️

My June, July & August schedules are now posted!
Summer is always a busy season with family time and vacations, so if you already know when you’d like an appointment, I definitely recommend booking ahead. 💆‍♀️✨

This is considered the slower season for massage therapy so it may look like I’m away a lot but trust me there will be plenty of availability. You can also message me if you’re having trouble finding something to fit your schedule I may be able to help.
