Last call to join us tomorrow! ❤️

Tomorrow evening, Trisha Mendoza and I will be coming together for a special French-language session as part of our Self-Reg in Practice: Fall 2026 Webinar Series.

Voir le comportement autrement : une introduction à Shanker Self-Reg®

We'll be exploring how Shanker Self-Reg helps us look beyond behaviour to better understand stress, energy and what children and young people may be experiencing.

I'm so grateful to Trisha for sharing her knowledge and bringing this learning to our French-speaking community.

A meltdown can be hard to witness. A shutdown can be easy to miss. Both call on us to look beneath what we see.

I’m grateful to have been invited to share a Self-Reg perspective at the Neuroeducation Symposium, alongside so many people who care deeply about children and the adults who support them.

In my interview, “What’s Actually Happening in a Meltdown: A Nervous System Guide to What Helps,” we explore what may be happening in a child’s brain and body, and how Shanker Self-Reg helps us understand what is behind the behaviour.

We talk about co-regulation, the hidden stressors that can build across a school day, and the question “Why this child? Why now?” We also explore everyday changes that can help reduce stress before it becomes overwhelming.

There is room in this conversation for the adult, too. Our energy, our stress, and the support available to us all matter.

My session will be available to watch free on Saturday, November 14. I’m looking forward to sharing this conversation with you!

Sometimes I can feel that something isn’t okay before I have the words for it. I might lose sleep, feel tension in my body or find myself returning to the same thoughts.

Self-Reg helps me pause and ask what I’m noticing. Sometimes I need to settle. Sometimes there’s something I need to address.

I shared this reflection with our newsletter readers a few weeks back.

Such a wonderful conversation with Kassie Allison on *Tuning In To Development*!

A big thank you to Kassie and the team at Profectum for inviting me to join them. I loved the opportunity to talk about Shanker Self-Reg and what changes when we start to see behaviour through a stress lens. When we begin asking "Why?" and "Why now?" we open up a whole different way of understanding and supporting children.

It was also wonderful to explore the connections between Self-Reg and DIR, especially the importance of relationships, individual differences, and the environments around us.

So grateful for the invitation and for the chance to keep these important conversations going!

Hope you'll have a listen! ❤️

Episode 21 of Tuning In To Development is here!

In this episode, host Kassie Allison welcomes Susan Hopkins, EdD, Executive Director of The MEHRIT Centre, Ltd., to explore this important distinction through Dr. Stuart Shanker’s Self-Reg framework.

Through relatable examples from home and school, Dr. Hopkins explores how recognizing stress, understanding individual differences, and attending to our own emotional states can help us support children’s regulation and connection.

She also shares why familiar strategies can feel out of reach when we’re dysregulated—and invites us to approach behavior with curiosity: “Why and why now?”

Discover how Self-Reg connects with DIR’s emphasis on relationships, individual differences, and the environment.
