Catheryn Joyce Bennington (nee Fleming) of High River, Alberta passed away on October 14th 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer. Cathy is survived by her loving husband Rob Bennington, her children David Bennington, James Bennington (Celeste Herbert) and Alison (Brendon) Brown and her most precious grandsons Barret and Hunter Brown. Cathy is also survived by her siblings, Cheryl (Brian) Congram, Connie Beringer, Bill (Ann) Fleming, Charlotte (Sid) Hurst and Carla Guyot. She was sister in law to Ed and Ruth Bennington, Joanne and Albert Dovichak, Ron and Donna Bennington, Barry and Karen Bennington and Leah and Adam Nega and auntie to many nieces and nephews. Cathy was well rooted in this community and will be missed by many friends.

Cathy was born September 24th 1951 in Chatham Ontario, she was the third born daughter of Raymond and Margaret Fleming. Much of her early childhood was spent down east, primarily in the Thamesville area. The family came west to pursue Ray's work on pipelines.

They also spent time living in Stettler, Medicine Hat, then back to Keewatin, Ontario, before ultimately settling in Brooks, Alberta in 1961. After graduating from high school, Cathy began working at the Royal Bank in Brooks Alberta. She intended to attend SAIT and study photography but then her life changed. It was there that she met Rob. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia Cecile Jenkins, who passed away suddenly at her home on October 9, 2026, at the age of 83. Sylvia was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, friend, and a second mom to many.

Sylvia was born in Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba, to Alphonse and Delma Chassé. Raised on the family farm, she often spoke fondly of her hardworking parents and was deeply proud of her Indigenous heritage. She shared stories of her father using oxen to break the land and her mother sewing clothing from the materials available to the family. Sylvia first travelled to Calgary as a young woman and quickly fell in love with the Calgary Stampede. After moving to Calgary in 1964, she missed only one Calgary Stampede in more than sixty years.

Sylvia worked as a hostess at the Calgary Inn (now the Westin Hotel), where she met the love of her life, Mike Jenkins. They were married on June 27, 1969, and welcomed their only child, Karen, the following October. Seeking a quieter life, they moved to Blackie in 1975 and made it their home for more than five decades.

Sylvia became deeply involved in the Blackie community. She was an active member of the Blackie Ladies Community Association, whose accomplishments included producing a cookbook that remains a treasured resource in many Blackie households and features Sylvia's famous air bun recipe. The family of Frances Margaret Eddy is saddened to announce her passing on October 8, 2026, at the age of 88. She passed peacefully with her family around her.

Fran was born at Thunder Bay, Ontario, the eldest of Thomas and Anastasia Bohan’s five children. The family moved west to BC, following Thomas' work in the mining industry with stops at Nickleplate and Princeton before settling in New Denver B.C. where Fran spent most of her childhood. She trained as a nurse at Calgary Holy Cross hospital before marrying Lionel E. Eddy on April 4,1959.

The happy couple settled in Nanton where they raised five children. Once the children were in grade school, Fran began working at Silver Willow Lodge and later at the Nanton Medical clinic, where she retired. Fran’s life could be entirely defined by her devotion to her family, faith, and friends. Always socially active, Fran's later years were busy with CWL, the Legion, Kozy Corner and the Bomber Society. She also volunteered and was ready to help where needed. She loved to visit, play cards, games, puzzles and had a passion for reading. Fran was very involved in helping with the upbringing of her nine grandchildren and was always available and ready to provide advice to help guide the wellbeing of her nine great grandchildren; all who visited her regularly.

Her legacy includes her children, Lee Eddy, Lori Brown (Brian), Leonard Eddy (Denise), Lorna Carpenter (Steve) and Leslie Eddy (Shelley)....

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barry Richard King, age 85. Barry passed away suddenly at the High River Hospital, with family and close friends by his side, on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

From a young age, Barry learned the value of hard work, determination, and independence as part of a two-generation farming family. His dedication to farming continued throughout his life and remained one of his greatest passions.

Barry will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Catherine, and his best friend and travelling partner, Bev Zielke. Barry was predeceased by his parents, Carman and Enid; his nephew, Michael; and his wife, Dianne. He is survived by his brother John, wife Vickie, and their children Marty (Cathy), Dale (Tina), and Trevor (Becky), and their families; his brother Sheldon, wife Gail, and their children David, Brian (Annie), and Karen (Will), and their families; and Dianne’s son, Cameron Maynes.

Barry loved farming and was a proud supporter of Farming Smarter. King Ranches was one of the first zero-till acreages in the area, reflecting Barry’s forward-thinking approach and commitment to agriculture.

His next great passion was flying his beloved Cessna 182. In his earlier years, he enjoyed crop dusting, with his nephews serving as markers. Diana (Jenner) Roper, of High River passed away at the High River General Hospital on September 28, 2026.

Diana was born in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan August 29, 1947 and in 1971 married Doug Roper of Saskatoon. Her passions were her family and home, family tree research and gardening. She was predeceased by her parents Fred and Anne Jenner of Moose Jaw and her in-laws Reg and Margaret Roper of Saskatoon, sister-in-law Judy Makepeace, brother-in-law Raymond Stankewich and niece Erica Jenner.

She is survived by her loving husband Doug of High River, AB, son Stephen (Lisa) of Ottawa, ON and sisters, Colleen (Jerry) Rittwage of Cochrane, AB; Glenda (Bryan) Hagerty of Moose Jaw, SK; Denise Stankewich of Cochrane, AB; Terry (Rod) Horsnall of Moose Jaw, SK; Pam (Steve) Skjerdal of Airdrie, AB; and brother, Randy (Tracey) Jenner of Moose Jaw, SK as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A sincere thank you to the staff on the 2nd floor of the High River Hospital for their compassionate care of Diana.

Colin Valgardson of High River passed away September 14, 2026 at the High River Hospital with his loving family by his side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Colin was born on June 17, 1956 in Edmonton, Alberta to Phyllis and Douglas Valgardson. He grew up with his siblings Karyle, Chris, and Sandra in various places throughout Alberta and British Columbia. Their family often returned to Taber, Alberta and eventually made it their primary home base, drawn by the strong family ties and sense of community there. Those connections profoundly shaped Colin’s values and instilled in him a deep commitment to his family that remained central throughout his life.

The family moved to High River in 1972, where Colin worked alongside his dad in the autobody shop at Central Motors, learning the trade and driving tow truck. In 1976, Colin went into business with his parents, owning and operating Spitzee Autobody. During this time Colin made a name for himself in both the business and the community, while developing his passion for repairing, painting and restoring vehicles. After the business closed in 1994, Colin went on to work at Triple K Autobody, attended SAIT to complete his Red Seal Journeyman ticket, and was hired on at the City of Calgary’s Fleet Services department where he completed the remainder of his career. It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Suitor of High River, AB, announces his peaceful passing on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the age of 62 years.

Doug was a deeply loved son, brother, uncle, and friend who brought warmth, kindness, and connection to everyone who knew him.

He is lovingly remembered and survived by his mother, Shirley Suitor; his brother, Norman Dale (Jean) Suitor; his nieces, Chelsea (Kia) Rokui and Nicole (Cameron) Williams; and his adored great-niece, Maeve Williams, and great-nephew, Westley Rokui.

Doug’s love extended to his chosen family, Curtis and Angie Nelson, along with their sons Deklin, Daxtyn, and Deaken Nelson, who held a very special place in his heart. He also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a wide circle of dear friends.

Doug was predeceased by his beloved father, Norman David Suitor.

A Celebration of Douglas' Life will be held at the Lyle Reeves Funerals Atrium (High River, AB) on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 2:00 P.M.

Jack Ball, much loved husband, dad, papa, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2026 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 86, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Ben and Ila and his sister, Arlene.

Born in High River on March 1, 1940, Jack grew up on the family farm with his older sister Arlene. He spent much of his youth helping on the farm and working with his mother - his Brown Owl - on the badges and tasks that led him to become a Rover Scout and later a Queen's Scout.

Jack was an avid sportsman. He learned to curl at a young age in Brant, played football for Red Deer College and later played baseball for the Vulcan Elks. He went on to compete in many curling bonspiels, including the Massey Ferguson Curlorama, alongside farm teams from across Canada.

Jack leaves behind a legacy of kindness, charm and an unforgettable mischievous spirit. He was the perfect mix of "up to no good" and "up to all good", and those who had the privilege of knowing him cherished every moment spent in his company.

Jack was the foundation of his family. His devotion to his wife and best friend Carol and his commitment to the well-being and success of his children, Corinne (Craig), Jeff (Heather), Brian (Bobbi) and Brad (Kathy) were his ultimate motivation. In Loving Memory of Stephanie Davy Ross

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Stephanie Davy Ross, who passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026.

Stephanie leaves behind her beloved husband, Randal, and her daughter, Emma. She is also survived by her parents, George and Nicole Davy; her brothers, Tom (Cathy Trepanier Kennedy) and Nicolas (Christina Elsdon Davy); her stepdaughter, Randi Lee (Patrick Whitten); and her two cherished grandchildren, Ari Evren and Eilah Mai. She also leaves behind her mother-in-law, Linda Ross (the late Craig Ross); brother-in-law, Travis Ross (Vicky Harper); and sister-in-law, Jillian Deshazer (David).

She will also be deeply missed by her many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, and her incredible circle of friends. Stephanie was fortunate to have many meaningful friendships throughout her life, and she touched the lives of so many people. She will be missed by every single one of them.

Stephanie was born in Montreal and soon after moved to Windsor Ontario, where she spent her early years and began building a wonderful life filled with family, friendships, and memorable experiences. Eventually, she made her way west to Alberta, where she began what would become an incredible career of more than 20 years with WestJet.
