September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, a dedicated time to share resources, reduce stigma, and encourage open conversations about mental health.

How can you help?

Share resources: Spread awareness about local and national support systems.
Check in: Regularly and openly connect with friends, family, and coworkers.
Learn warning signs: Look out for expressions of hopelessness, withdrawal, or sudden mood changes.

How can our horses help?

Because horses are prey animals, they are highly sensitive to body language, heart rates, and subtle changes in emotion. This instinct makes them incredible partners for mental, emotional, and physical healing.

🧠 Mental & Emotional Benefits:

Mirroring Emotions - Horses naturally mirror human body language and tension. If a person is anxious, the horse may become restless; when the person calms down, the horse settles. This provides immediate, non-judgmental feedback that helps individuals recognize their own internal states.

Reducing Anxiety and Depression - Interacting with horses requires focus and presence, encouraging mindfulness. Ground activities like grooming and feeding lower stress hormones and promote the release of oxytocin, which fosters emotional bonding.

Processing Trauma and PTSD - For veterans and trauma survivors, traditional talk therapy can sometimes feel overwhelming. Because horses share a similar constant state of vigilance, they offer a safe, non-verbal connection where individuals can process difficult emotions without needing to speak.

Building Trust and Confidence - Accomplishing tasks with a large, powerful animal helps build self-esteem and assertiveness. It teaches individuals how to set clear boundaries and communicate effectively.

Please reach out if you or someone you know is struggling. We see you. You matter. We believe that we all heal better together!❤️

What are you supposed to do when you don't like either option? 🤷‍♀️
Most of the horses do not like being cooped up in the barn for too long 😵‍💫. However, most of them also don't like being out in the heavy rain for too long either! 😫
Dallas keeps sticking his head out, maybe trying to decide which is worse? 😂
When it comes to thunderstorm risks ⛈️, their safety in the barn is always the priority! ❤️🐴

What a beautiful start to our First Responder afternoons ❤️

There are some things that don’t come easily to first responders. Over time, the weight of what we see, hear, carry, and experience can quietly change us.

Sometimes we lose:
• Trust in ourselves
• Trust in others
• The ability to truly relax
• The ability to feel joy without guilt
• And, sometimes, even the ability to have a deep, wholehearted laugh.

But today reminded us why creating safe spaces for first responders matters so much.

There was no doubt that Scotch, our beautiful teacher, understood exactly what we needed. We needed genuine laughter. We needed perspective shifts. We needed to slow down, be present, and actively listen to one another in a space where we could simply be.

Scotch was engaged, completely in tune with us, and without a doubt, one of the most important parts of our team today. ❤️

To every first responder who walked through that door today: thank you for showing up. Thank you for being vulnerable. Thank you for allowing yourself to laugh, to listen, to connect, and to simply breathe for a little while.

We spend so much of our lives being strong for everyone else. We deserve spaces where we can be cared for, too.

Here’s to healing, connection, perspective, and finding our laughter again — one afternoon at a time. ❤️

To all first responders: you are seen, you are valued, and you don’t have to carry it all alone.
