There is so much to recognize, honour and learn from this September.

The month brings attention to health, culture, faith, identity, equity and the experiences that shape the lives of people in the community.

From World Su***de Prevention Day and World Patient Safety Day to Gender Equality Week, Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur, International Week of Deaf People, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and Orange Shirt Day, each moment invites us to listen, learn and better understand one another.

By making space for these conversations and celebrations, we help strengthen a culture of belonging, respect and care for everyone. 💜

Behind every call is a connection.

Did you know? 📞 Our Waterloo Regional Health Network - WRHN switchboard team handles approximately 2,500 calls on an average weekday, helping connect patients, loved ones and healthcare teams across our network.

While their work often happens behind the scenes, their impact is felt throughout every site, clinic and department.

Today, we're sending a big thank you to our switchboard operators for their care, professionalism and dedication. 💛

Happy National Switchboard Operators Day!

Sometimes, it’s the smallest moments that make the biggest difference. 💙

A conversation. A favourite song. A game of bingo. A few minutes spent listening, laughing or simply being together.

For five years, volunteers with the Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) at Waterloo Regional Health Network - WRHN have been creating meaningful moments for older patients while helping to prevent delirium and functional decline.

At the heart of the program is connection, helping patients feel supported, engaged and seen through conversation, activity and companionship.

As HELP celebrates five years at WRHN, its volunteers continue to show how everyday moments of connection can leave a lasting impact.

August is here, bringing opportunities to recognize important histories, celebrate diverse cultures and identities, and learn more about the causes that shape communities.

This month’s observances include Emancipation Day, World Breastfeeding Week, International Day of the World’s Indigenous People, National Acadian Day, World Humanitarian Day, Women’s Equality Day, International Overdose Awareness Day, and many more.

Each observance is an opportunity to learn, celebrate our differences, and help create healthier, more inclusive spaces for everyone. ✨

Today, August 1, Emancipation Day marks a powerful moment in Canada’s history, the end of slavery in 1834.

Officially recognized in 2021, it’s a time to reflect on the legacy of slavery and the ongoing impact of anti-Black racism in Canada and healthcare.

The Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) Black Health Professional Collective (Employee Resource Group) proudly organized the raising of the Pan-African Flag across WRHN sites - a powerful symbol of solidarity with the Black community.

Together, we honour freedom, culture, and resilience.
