I often marvel at how different healing practices seem to converge on what matters the most.
Staying neutral, going from external distraction to inner awareness: apparently it is important when training horses too!

Mother's day:
Acknowledging all those mothers living in current war scenarios, afraid for their own safety and that of their children.

Vietnam (Wislawa Szymborska)

"Woman, what's your name?" "I don't know."

"How old are you? Where are you from?" "I don't know."

Why did you dig that burrow?" "I don't know."

"How long have you been hiding?" "I don't know."

"Why did you bite my finger?" "I don't know."

"Don't you know that we won't hurt you?" "I don't know."

"Whose side are you on?" "I don't know."

"This is war, you've got to choose." "I don't know."

"Does your village still exist?" "I don't know."

"Are those your children?" "Yes."

The great Dr J. Gunter tells us more about that in her witty Ted-Talk. It's an old one, but still very relevant.

Consistency matters more than intensity.

Exercise is one of the most studied non-drug treatments for chronic pain. Gentle movement can help calm the body’s pain signals, reduce inflammation, and release natural chemicals that ease pain and support mood. Over time, it can also make everyday activities feel more manageable.

Research shows that exercise consistently improves strength and physical function. Changes in pain levels are different for everyone, and some people may notice more improvement than others.

It’s also important to note that exercise is a form of stress on the body. Doing too much too quickly can lead to flares, which is why the right “dose” and slow, steady progress matter.
At our next pain science lecture on 3/2, Dr. Joshua Hardy will review what the science tells us about exercise and pain, including how it works, what risks to watch for, and how to start safely.

Tu Youyou called her Nobel Prize discovery “A Gift from Traditional Chinese Medicine to the World.”

When hunting for a medicine to treat malaria, Tu turned to Chinese medical texts, initially collecting descriptions of over two thousand herbal, animal and mineral prescriptions.

Her search ended in the extraction of artemisinin – an anti-malarial that has saved millions of lives.
