A father’s grief may not always look the way we expect grief to look.

After pregnancy or infant loss, attention naturally focuses on the mother and the physical and emotional care she may need. But this can unintentionally make a father’s own grief and emotional needs less visible.

Partners can be an important source of comfort for one another. But when two parents are grieving the same baby, both may need support beyond each other, space to process the loss and grieve in their own way and at their own pace.

On International Bereaved Father’s Day, we recognize fathers not only as supporters of a grieving partner, but as bereaved parents themselves.

----

There is no “right” way to feel after an abortion.

For some women, abortion may bring relief and little or no grief. For others, the experience can include sadness, grief, guilt, uncertainty, or conflicting emotions, sometimes alongside relief. One experience does not invalidate the other.

Acknowledging that grief can exist after abortion is not telling women that they should grieve. Just as acknowledging relief does not mean every woman should feel relieved.

At CœurAge, abortion is included in reproductive loss support because we believe women deserve a safe space to talk about their experience, whatever that experience looks like, and without being told how they are supposed to feel.

Support should be available for those who need it, for whatever reason they need it.

If you or someone you know has experienced reproductive or infant loss, CœurAge offers a safe, compassionate space to better understand grief, connect with others, and move forward at your own pace.

Perinatal palliative care is about so much more than end-of-life care. It is about how we care when a cure may no longer be possible.

When a baby is diagnosed with a life-limiting condition, families deserve compassionate, informed support that allows them to make decisions while protecting their baby’s comfort and dignity. Perinatal palliative care can create space for parents to simply be parents through an unimaginable time — to hold their baby, spend time together, create memories, involve siblings and loved ones, and be surrounded by professionals who understand both the medical and emotional realities of what they are experiencing.

Grief care does not begin after a baby dies. It begins when a family learns that the future they imagined may no longer be possible. Thoughtful perinatal palliative care recognizes that reality and accompanies families through it, before birth, during their baby’s life, at the end of life, and into bereavement.

Because we may not be able to change the outcome, but we can still profoundly change the experience.

Today, we honour the babies who came after loss and the families who carry hope and grief together.

Choosing to try again after loss can be incredibly difficult. Pregnancy after loss can hold so much love and hope, but also anxiety and fear. Welcoming another baby does not replace the baby who died, and a new beginning does not erase what came before.

🤍 We also hold close those still waiting for their rainbow, and those whose journey may never include another baby. 🤍

🌈 Today we honour every family learning to carry love, grief and hope together.

Join the Centre for Reproductive Loss, in partnership with the Little Bean Foundation for a day of reflection, connection, and compassion as we come together to honour the lives of babies gone too soon and the journeys of those who carry them in their hearts.

This year's retreat will include a special session facilitated by Analté Rodríguez, an international life coach, therapist, author, speaker, and facilitator with over 15 years of experience guiding individuals and teams through meaningful and lasting personal transformation.

Together, we will create a space where grief is honoured, stories are welcomed, and healing can unfold, one gentle step at a time.
