🌿 A little less asking. A little more noticing.

Sometimes, the most meaningful opportunities for communication happen when we stop asking so many questions and simply observe.

Instead of “What colour is that?” or “What are you building?” try sitting alongside your child and noticing what captures their attention.

Follow their lead. Join their play. Comment on what they’re doing. Give them time and space to communicate in their own way.

When we shift from testing what children know to connecting over what interests them, we create more natural opportunities for language, interaction, and shared joy.

Connection before questions. Curiosity before expectations. đź’š

🌿 BACK TO THE BASICS: What does neurodiversity-affirming mean?

At Prairie Basic, being neurodiversity-affirming is more than an approach we use in therapy. It’s a philosophy that guides how we see, understand, and support children.

We believe that every child deserves to feel accepted, understood, and valued for who they are.

That means recognizing that there isn’t one “right” way to communicate, learn, play, or participate.

It means building on strengths, following children’s interests, respecting all forms of communication, and adapting our environments and expectations to support individual needs.

And importantly, being neurodiversity-affirming doesn’t mean we stop teaching skills or supporting growth. It means we do so in ways that honour each child’s autonomy, communication, and unique way of experiencing the world.

We don’t need children to change who they are to help them thrive. 💚

Swipe through to learn more about what neurodiversity-affirming practice looks like and why we love it!

🍂 Back to the Basics 🍂

There’s something about fall that makes us want to reset, reconnect, and get back into a good rhythm. 🤎

As school gets back into full swing, we’re reminded that learning is about so much more than academics.

At Prairie Basic, we believe connection comes first. When a child feels safe, understood, encouraged, and supported, they’re better able to learn, grow, and build confidence.

Our tutoring approach is rooted in the basics:
✨ Building relationships
✨ Meeting each learner where they’re at
✨ Creating confidence through small wins
✨ Making learning feel positive and achievable
✨ Supporting the whole child, not just the work in front of them

This fall, let’s take the pressure off and get back to the basics — connection, confidence, and a love of learning. 🌾

Here’s to a new season of learning, growing, and finding those little wins along the way. 🤍
