Let’s power up their voices! Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder that affects 1-2 in 1000 children. Early intervention and appropriate speech therapy make a huge difference, so share this post and let’s spread awareness.

Today is also an opportunity to recognize the hard work and resilience these kids demonstrate each day, simply to be heard and understood.

Today we recognize Apraxia Awareness Day. A day to celebrate the incredible children working hard to find their voice and the families supporting them every step of the way. 💙

Childhood Apraxia of Speech is a motor speech disorder that can make it difficult for children to plan and coordinate the movements needed for speech. With specialized therapy and strong support, children with apraxia can make meaningful progress and build confident communication.

At our clinic, we are proud to support children with apraxia and their families through evidence-based, individualized therapy focused on connection, confidence, and communication.

Grounded Together: Parent Pilates & Movement Circle

A space just for you — exactly as you are.

Join us for a gentle, body-focused movement class designed for parents and caregivers of children with diverse needs. Held within our supportive clinic environment, this class is led by an Occupational Therapist, certified Pilates instructor, and dance therapy trainee — blending clinical insight with mindful, compassionate movement.

🌿 A dedicated hour just for you— no caregiving demands, no expectations🧘‍♀️ Move at your own pace with slow, guided exercises that build awareness of how your body moves and feels
🤝 Connect with others who understand the unique rhythms of caregiving
🌸 A calm, supportive spacewhere nothing has to be perfect

Each class focuses on gentle Pilates-inspired movement, breath, and exploring different ways the body can move — supporting regulation, awareness, and reconnection.

💬 The final 10 minutes are optional for casual connection and conversation — stay if you’d like, or head out when you need.
This is your time to land, move, and reconnect — in a space that meets you where you are.

Join us for the Ottawa Apraxia Walk for Talk 2026—our very first walk bringing families, friends, and our community together to support children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS).

🗣️ Many children with CAS know what they want to say—but struggle to say it.
This walk helps change that.

Today’s activity: Magnetic tile building 🧩

What you see:

Children building colourful shapes and simple structures.

What we’re actually targeting:

🔹 Colour, shape & size vocabulary – learning words like “red,” “triangle,” “big,” and “small”

🔹 Following directions – understanding simple instructions like “put the blue square on top”

🔹 Sequencing & describing – talking about the steps of building (“first… then… next…”)

🔹 Problem solving – experimenting with how pieces fit together

🔹 Expressive language – commenting, requesting pieces, and describing creations

Hands-on building activities create natural opportunities to model descriptive language and support comprehension.

As children explore and create, they practice using new words in meaningful, motivating ways.
