Ethen is working in a split leg position, where the legs are placed in a "V" and supported to maintain proper alignment.

While performing upper body and core exercises, this position also provides a gentle, sustained stretch to the:

🦡 Hamstrings
πŸ”„ Hip adductors
🧍 Lower back

At the same time, we're working on:

πŸ’ͺ Core strength and postural control
🀲 Upper extremity strength and coordination
βš–οΈ Sitting balance and stability

It's a great example of how one position can target multiple goals at once. πŸ‘

Pairing movement with stimulation πŸ’ͺ⚑

Here, Jayci is using the Xcite to complete assisted ball rolls, combining functional electrical stimulation (FES) with a purposeful reaching movement.

For Jayci, this exercise is working on:

⚑ Activating muscles that are difficult to recruit voluntarily
🀲 Reaching forward with her right arm
πŸ’ͺ Shoulder stability and upper limb control
βš–οΈ Core engagement and sitting balance

Using FES during movement helps target specific muscles while practicing controlled, repetitive motion. The goal is to encourage muscle activation, improve timing and coordination, and provide meaningful practice throughout the session.

Every rep is another opportunity to practice, strengthen, and build confidence. πŸ‘

A strong trunk starts with the basics πŸ’ͺ

This half-kneeling hold might look simple, but it requires constant control to maintain position.

With one hip supported by the table, this exercise is working on:

πŸ’ͺ Core activation and trunk stability
βš–οΈ Balance and postural control
🧠 Body awareness and maintaining midline
🦡 Hip stability and lower body engagement
⏱️ Endurance in an upright position

For individuals with a spinal cord injury, building trunk stability is an important foundation for many everyday movements. Exercises like this challenge the body to stay upright with as little support as possible, helping develop the control needed for more dynamic activities.

Summer is officially here! β˜€οΈ

With the hot weather we've been experiencing, we wanted to share a quick reminder about heat and neurological conditions.

For some individuals, neurological injuries or conditions can affect the body's ability to regulate temperature, making hot weather more challenging.

These slides are intended to raise awareness and share some general information about staying cool during periods of extreme heat.

Stay cool out there!
