(Resources, Research, and Rights: Doing the Work: Truth Before Reconciliation - Centre for Human Rights Research)As we move toward the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we want to reflect on what the day means and how we do the work that it calls for.

We want to continue to highlight resources for continued learning.

We have included Western University’s “Engaging with the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Toolkit” and have highlighted specific points.

For further information we have linked the toolkit here:https://indigenous.uwo.ca/assets/docs/pdf/Engaging_with_NDTR_2025Toolkit.pdf

We also have a guide for settlers created by the University of Manitoba’s Centre for Human Rights Research. For more information about how the guide was created, go to the link: (Resources, Research, and Rights: Doing the Work: Truth Before Reconciliation - Centre for Human Rights Research)

Lets dig deeper into the wonderful resource that we just posted the other day. A big take-away from the writings would be that Respect, Relationship, Reciprocity and Responsibility are interconnected. The guide explains that these four principles are at the heart of Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee ways of knowing and shape how people relate to one another and to the natural world. It also reminds us that respect is not simply an idea, but something we demonstrate through our relationships, our actions and our responsibilities to others.

As we move toward National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, this is a meaningful place to begin: listening, learning, building respectful relationships and considering what responsibility looks like for each of us. Truth and reconciliation is not only about remembering the past. It is also about how we choose to move forward together.
