A message from Jerry Letkeman, Executive Director:

For decades, Bethany residents have gathered in the sewing room to make blankets for Mennonite Central Committee. Around 8,000 blankets have been made there, bringing warmth to families facing war, disaster, and displacement. To all current and past volunteers: thank you! 💛

In January 2027, we’ll hold a special service for residents to celebrate this chapter in Bethany Manor’s history.

After that, this sewing room will take on a new purpose as the new home of the Corner Nook convenience/grocery store. This larger space will let us offer a more complete selection of groceries, which matters most to residents who are less mobile than they used to be.

We welcomed Bethany Manor Saskatoon residents to the Egg Club this week!

A great morning of cooking and conversation with 70+ residents. On the menu: beet pickled eggs, egg salad sammies, egg bites, and pumpkin spice cupcakes.

Eggs are versatile, nutritious, and easy to prepare, the perfect food at any age. 🧡

Mennonite Heritage Week

This second week of September, Canada marks Mennonite Heritage Week, recognized by Parliament in 2019. It's a modest honour for a story that began in the 16th century and has been carried forward mostly by quiet perseverance.

There are Mennonites all over the world today. (Here's one for you: India has more of them than North America does.) We don't agree on everything. We never have. But we keep coming back to the same conviction: that mindfully following Jesus leads us toward love, justice and mercy.

Jesus prayed, "thy kingdom come, on earth, as it is in heaven."

That prayer is lived out in ordinary ways. A meal shared. A neighbour checked on. A quilt stitched by hands that have stitched hundreds before. At Bethany Manor, we're grateful to be part of that long, patient story.

It was uplifting to see many residents, friends, and supporters join us for reflection, joy, food, and the cake auction. A message from Jerry Letkeman, Executive Director…

August on the prairies rewards attention. The flowers are at their best, the evenings are long, and there's usually a good conversation waiting in the Courtyard.

In our 40th anniversary year, we're reminded that Bethany's story was never about buildings. It's about people choosing, again and again, to build community - a welcome for a new neighbour, a coffee that turns into an hour, a genuine smile that says, I see you.

Thank you to the anonymous donor behind the 110 La Ronge lobby renovation, and to residents for your patience. It should be completely done next week but it’s functional already.

I’ll leave you with a question…what's your favourite way to spend an August evening?

Enjoy August - ice cream included.

A message from Jerry Letkeman, Executive Director...

Grace, Gratitude & Growth at Bethany Manor this July!

None of us are perfect - and the good news is, we don't need to be. This month we're leaning into grace, gratitude, and a little laughter (good medicine for the soul!). Perfectionism is more myth than reality, and chasing it only gets in the way of the peace God wants for us. We can treat ourselves with the same compassion we’d offer our dearest friend, remembering that being human means being wonderfully, imperfectly made in God’s image - fallible, forgiven, and loved.

We've celebrated Canada Day. We live in an amazing, beautiful country. And exciting news: our 110 main lobby renovation is almost complete, new flooring, lighting, and paint - made possible by the generosity of our wonderful donors. Thanks for your patience during construction.
