Celebrating 40 years at Bethany – with Thanks to our Sponsors & Donors

Bethany Manor’s 40th Anniversary celebration with residents and guests on August 27th was a great afternoon!

It was uplifting to see many residents, friends, and supporters join us for reflection, joy, food, and the cake auction. The auction of 13 amazing cakes made an incredible $6,845 for the Bethany Manor Equipment Fund! Special thanks to Kelly Clarke from Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers for the entertaining and exciting cake auction!

We wish to again extend our sincere thanks to the many Bethany Manor staff, our Board Chair and Vice Chair, and volunteers who helped in the planning and implementation of this event over the past year! It took a large team to host 375+ of our closest friends.

THANKS TO OUR EVENT DONORS AND SPONSORS:

We wish to thank our Chair’s Ruby Circle Donors who graciously supported our event and wish to remain anonymous.

A message from Jerry Letkeman, Executive Director…

August on the prairies rewards attention. The flowers are at their best, the evenings are long, and there's usually a good conversation waiting in the Courtyard.

In our 40th anniversary year, we're reminded that Bethany's story was never about buildings. It's about people choosing, again and again, to build community - a welcome for a new neighbour, a coffee that turns into an hour, a genuine smile that says, I see you.

Thank you to the anonymous donor behind the 110 La Ronge lobby renovation, and to residents for your patience. It should be completely done next week but it’s functional already.

I’ll leave you with a question…what's your favourite way to spend an August evening?

Enjoy August - ice cream included.

Grace, Gratitude & Growth at Bethany Manor this July!

None of us are perfect - and the good news is, we don't need to be. This month we're leaning into grace, gratitude, and a little laughter (good medicine for the soul!). Perfectionism is more myth than reality, and chasing it only gets in the way of the peace God wants for us. We can treat ourselves with the same compassion we’d offer our dearest friend, remembering that being human means being wonderfully, imperfectly made in God’s image - fallible, forgiven, and loved.

We've celebrated Canada Day. We live in an amazing, beautiful country. And exciting news: our 110 main lobby renovation is almost complete, new flooring, lighting, and paint - made possible by the generosity of our wonderful donors. Thanks for your patience during construction.

The trees are full, the flowers are reaching for the sun, and our Courtyard fills with conversation, laughter, and the occasional ice cream cone.

Our roots run deep in Mennonite values of caring for one another — but what makes Bethany truly special today is who calls it home. Residents from many backgrounds and traditions, each adding their own warmth to our community. As Galatians 6:2 reminds us, we're here to "carry each other's burdens" — sometimes through practical help, sometimes through a simple chat in the sunshine.

That's the gift of community, and we're grateful for it every June. 💛

A message from Jerry Letkeman, Executive Director:

This week, May 4-10, is Mental Health Week in Canada - and it matters deeply to us.

For too long, some in our faith communities have carried a painful and mistaken belief: that struggling with anxiety, depression, or emotional pain means something is spiritually wrong with them. We want to say clearly and with love - that is not true. These are real health conditions. They are not personal failures. They are not spiritual failures.

Asking for help is not weakness. It is courage. It is wisdom. It is the kind of honest self-awareness that opens the door - to comfort, to connection, and to God's care flowing through the people around us.

This week, we invite you to be gentle - with yourself, and with others. Mental and emotional struggles don't always look the way we expect, and supporting someone through them can be complicated and exhausting. Grace goes a long way on both sides.

If you or someone you love is struggling, please reach out - to a trusted friend, a counsellor, your doctor, or a crisis line. You don't have to carry it alone. 💚

Even though outside Mother Nature is a bit confused about when Spring really should be arriving, inside, we are ready to welcome all the spring birds, critters & new growth of the season.

Spring has a way of grounding us at Bethany Manor - a season of renewal, reflection, and quiet hope. For many of our residents, faith continues to be a steady source of strength, especially as we moved through Good Friday and Easter. It’s a simple reminder that each day carries meaning, even in the ordinary.

What I continue to appreciate most about Bethany is the sense of connection. Independence matters - but so does knowing someone is just down the hall for a conversation, a laugh, or a friendly check-in. Time and again, residents tell me it’s these relationships that truly make this place feel like home.

From April 19-26, we recognize National Volunteer Week. Our volunteers bring warmth, kindness, and a quiet dedication that makes a real difference in daily life here. If you see one of them, I’d encourage you to offer a quick thank you - it goes a long way.

We’re also looking forward to renewing our Gift Shop space into a resident-focused amenity. It’s another step toward enhancing opportunities for connection, in line with our mission.

Wishing you a peaceful and encouraging April.
