The Semiahmoo Speech Services team consists of a team of registered Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) and Speech-Language Pathologist Assistants (SLPA) offer their expertise with toddlers, preschoolers, school-age and adult populations. With two locations, we are a speech and language therapy practice servicing clients in the heart of Vancouver and Surrey, B.C. (including the peninsula, White Rock, Delta, Cloverdale and Langley).

✨ It’s Team Tuesday! ✨

This week we are introducing the newest addition to our team, Alisha! 💚

Alisha is currently in her fourth year at SFU completing a major in Linguistics and a minor in Learning and Developmental disabilities. She is working to pursue a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology. She is also currently working as a Behaviour Interventionist and has 4+ years of experience working with children ages 5 months-12 years old. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, junk journaling, dancing, and baking. She also has a small cake-pop/treat business and is part of the Bhangra team at SFU!

Game Spotlight: I SPY Eagle Eye 🔍🔔
This week’s featured therapy material is I Spy Eagle Eye!
I Spy Eagle Eye can be used to target a variety of goals, including:
* Turn-taking & joint attention
* Practicing prepositions (e.g., next to, under, between)
* Practicing descriptive language (colors, shapes, categories)
* Vocabulary building & labeling objects
* Fast processing & reaction time (ringing the bell!)

One of the things we love most about this game is its high energy and adaptability. Whether you are racing to ding the bell or taking a relaxed approach to hunt for target sounds and descriptive clues, it easily flexes to meet diverse speech, language, and attention goals.

When therapy feels like playtime, children build confidence, spark connection, and grow their communication skills naturally! 💛

Rachel is studying Speech Sciences at UBC working to pursue a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. She brings experience working both as a support worker and behaviour interventionist, as well as volunteering to support adults with complex disabilities. In her free time, she loves to work on music, draw, and eat good food with friends! 🎨🎶

Have you ever wondered when your child should be able to say different speech sounds?

Speech sounds develop gradually, and children typically acquire different sounds at different ages. The chart in this post shows expected developmental age ranges for when children generally acquire different speech sounds.

These ranges can be a helpful starting point for parents and caregivers when thinking about their child’s speech development and may help identify when a child could be developing a particular sound later than expected.It’s important to remember that these are general developmental ranges, not strict deadlines. Every child develops at their own pace, and some variation is expected.

If you’re noticing that your child is having difficulty producing certain sounds beyond the expected age range, or you have concerns about their speech being difficult to understand, an SLP can help determine whether further assessment or support may be beneficial.

Material Highlight: Lucky Ladybug Matchup 🐞

This week’s featured therapy material is Lucky Ladybug Matchup, suggested by our SLP, Olivia C.!

Lucky Ladybug Match-Up can be used to target a variety of goals, including:

• Color matching and recognition • Counting and early number concepts • Turn-taking and waiting • Following one- and two-step directions • Vocabulary, describing, and commenting • Practicing speech sounds and target words throughout the game

One of the things we love most about this game is how versatile it is. It can be adapted for children working on speech sounds, receptive and expressive language, social communication, and early learning skills—all while making therapy fun and engaging.

Learning through play helps children build confidence and supports meaningful communication every step of the way! 💛
