New hope for healing skin grafts and flaps
A large 2026 review pooling 24 studies and 2,246 patients found that hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) may help support the healing and survival of skin grafts and flaps that are struggling to recover after surgery. The researchers gave a strong recommendation for using HBOT before and after surgery to support healing and possibly reduce the need for repeat procedures.
This finding comes from a 2026 systematic review and meta-analysis published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open (PRS Global Open).
HBOT is OHIP recognized in Ontario. Ask your physician for a referral to Modern Medical Hyperbaric Clinic in Thunder Bay to find out if it may be right for you.
