Here are a few ways to keep your eyes comfortable on poor air quality days:�
1. Use preservative-free artificial tears to help lubricate and soothe irritated eyes.
2. Consider wearing glasses instead of contact lenses if your eyes are feeling particularly dry or irritated.
3. Wear sunglasses outdoors to provide an extra barrier from wind and airborne particles.
4. Avoid rubbing your eyes, as this can make irritation worse.
5. Limit prolonged outdoor exposure and keep indoor air as clean as possible, particularly when air quality advisories are in effect.

Even though the sky may look less hazy today, wildfire smoke is still affecting air quality across Toronto and parts of Ontario. A clearer-looking sky doesn’t necessarily mean the air (or your eyes) are in the clear.
Poor air quality and smoke can contribute to dryness, burning, redness and irritation, especially for those who already experience dry eye symptoms or wear contact lenses.

If your eyes remain persistently red, painful or irritated, it may be time to have them checked.

At DeSouza Optometry, we are excited to introduce several new advanced technologies to help provide more precise and comprehensive eye care.

Our new OCT technology allows us to detect and monitor eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and retinal changes earlier and with greater accuracy. We also use OCT imaging to help achieve highly precise scleral lens fittings for patients with irregular corneas, keratoconus, and severe dry eye.

We have also added advanced corneal topography for Ortho-K and RGP lens fittings, along with improved detection and monitoring of complex corneal conditions.

For myopia control, our new axial length measurement technology allows us to closely track eye growth and monitor progression in children undergoing myopia management treatment.

In addition, our new dry eye analyzer evaluates Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), gland structure, and Tear Break-Up Time (TBUT) to better diagnose and personalize dry eye treatment plans.
