July 6 is National Injury Prevention Day, a national awareness campaign led by Parachute Canada to highlight the devastating impact of preventable injuries. These injuries are the leading cause of death for Canadians aged 1–44 and cost the economy over $29 billion each year.

Most injuries—whether from falls, motor vehicle collisions, poisonings, or sports—are predictable and preventable through education, safer environments, and evidence-based policies.

Join the movement by wearing green, lighting up landmarks, and sharing injury prevention tips to help build a Canada where everyone can live long lives to the fullest.

Summertime is finally here, and that means BBQs, picnics, and outdoor dining galore! But with the warm weather comes the potential for foodborne illnesses if proper precautions are not taken.

Premier Health would like to share some tips to ensure food safety during your summer festivities:

1. Keep cold foods cold: Perishable items like salads, fruits, and dips should be kept in a cooler with ice packs to prevent bacteria growth.

2. Cook meats thoroughly: Be sure to cook meats to the recommended internal temperature to kill any harmful bacteria. Invest in a meat thermometer to ensure your meats are cooked properly.

3. Avoid cross-contamination: Use separate cutting boards and utensils for raw meats and ready-to-eat foods to prevent the spread of bacteria.

4. Wash your hands: Before and after handling food, be sure to wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

5. Don't leave food out for extended periods: If food has been sitting out for more than two hours (or one hour if the temperature is above 90°F), it's best to throw it away to prevent foodborne illnesses.

Join Premier Health in recognizing June 26 as National Cancer Wellness Awareness Day! National Cancer Wellness Awareness Day (NCWAD) is crucial in raising awareness that 1 in 2 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. It highlights the presence and benefits of cancer wellness centers, aiming to educate and encourage people to utilize these valuable resources for improved well-being.

Cancer Wellness empowers individuals by addressing their physical, spiritual, emotional, social, systemic, informational and practical needs. This compliments traditional medicine for a whole person approach to living well with cancer, as it empowers individuals by giving them a sense of control over their own care.
