Sutherland-Chan School - Massage Therapy Sutherland-Chan School & Teaching Clinic
Founded in 1978

Sutherland-Chan School & Teaching Clinic is a career college with longevity in the massage therapy profession and a solid reputation as one of the best schools in North America. We view massage therapy as a health care profession (as opposed to an aesthetics or service occupation) with historic roots and a modern foundation in evidence and effectiveness. We are proud to see that our graduates are preferentially hired by employers and that there is a notable prominence of leaders and educators in our profession who are Sutherland-Chan alumni.

To our students:

We know there is a lot of uncertainty right now surrounding OSAP funding for students attending private career colleges, and we understand how concerning this is for our students and their families.

Sutherland-Chan is continuing to provide the necessary education to our students while we work toward a sustainable solution that allows the school to continue operating while the government completes its audit and our operational funding is restored.

We are actively working through the situation and will continue to share information as it becomes available.

Last night, our Founder, Grace Chan, spoke with CBC News about the impact of the OSAP situation on students. You can read the full article and learn more about the current situation here:

Did you know massage therapists can play a meaningful role in supporting patients in high-risk obstetrics?

At Sunnybrook Hospital, our students gain the opportunity to work alongside healthcare teams, supporting individuals experiencing pregnancy-related complications, postpartum conditions, and other complex medical situations affecting pregnancy.

This unique clinical placement challenges students to adapt their skills in a hospital environment- learning to navigate medical charts, modify techniques and positioning, and provide compassionate, patient-centred care.

For many patients on prolonged bed rest, massage therapy can help ease physical discomfort and offer moments of comfort during a difficult time. The impact of this care is often deeply appreciated by both patients and healthcare staff.

Thank you to our High-Risk Obstetrics team and clinical educators for creating such an incredible learning experience.

Stay tuned to hear directly from our students about their experiences in this specialty clinic.
