By building strong partnerships within the community, we aim to bring services to those who can benefit from integrating music therapy into their care. Community partnerships include those with long-term care facilities, group homes, retirement homes, assisted living facilities, hospices, rehabilitation centres, mental health centres, schools and therapy centres. We also work with families to help bring music therapy to their loved ones in the comfort of their home. Miya Music Therapy aims to create more public awareness on the benefits of music therapy. We hope that by doing this, more people will have access to these services and benefit from working with an accredited music therapist. One of my favourite parts of the month is getting together with our Creative Care Club members during our monthly Office Hours.

This week, recreation professionals from long-term care homes, memory care communities, and adult day programs who are part of our Creative Care Club joined us to connect, share ideas, offer feedback, and get a first look at next month's ready-to-go programs!

We heard stories about residents who lit up during a familiar song, participants who found a new and accessible way to express themselves through art, and opportunities for people to continue growing—sharing their wisdom, discovering new interests, contributing to their community, and expressing who they are.

At MIYA Creative Care we believe meaningful programming goes beyond filling time. When thoughtfully designed, creative experiences can foster connection, support identity, inspire purpose, and create opportunities for continued growth - every stage of life.

Thank you to our Creative Care Club members for continually sharing your ideas, experiences, and dedication to creating meaningful moments for the people you support!

The Creative Care Club is a membership designed for therapists, recreation teams, caregivers, and professionals supporting older adults and individuals living with dementia. Creating this app and seeing care teams use it for meaningful, creative care has been an incredible journey!

Each month, members receive:
• 4 creative program plans
• 2 one-to-one connection guides
• 1 skill-building course/presentation
• Practical adaptations and templates
• Resources grounded in meaning-centred, relationship-focused care

The vision behind this platform is to support more intentional, engaging, and emotionally meaningful care experiences through the creative arts.

Over the years through MIYA Creative Care, I’ve seen how music, art, movement, storytelling, and creativity can support not only engagement - but identity, connection, purpose, and quality of life.

This app was created to help make those tools more accessible to care teams and caregivers in practical, adaptable ways!

Grateful to continue building resources that support culture change in aging care through creativity 🤍

Building the Creative Care Club app has truly been one of the highlights of my career thus far. Seeing it come to life over the last six months as a tool to support care teams in creating more meaningful moments has been incredibly rewarding.

Over the last 10 years working in dementia care and alongside recreation and care teams at MIYA Creative Care, I’ve seen firsthand just how much intentional, creative-based programs can impact quality of life. I’ve witnessed the most beautiful moments of joy, connection, calm, and meaning through music, movement, art, and thoughtful engagement.

At the same time, I’ve also seen how stretched thin so many incredible professionals are. With limited time, limited resources, and so much on their plates, it can be challenging to consistently create fresh, creative experiences day after day.

That’s exactly why I created the Creative Care Club: a practical membership designed to help teams spend less time planning and more time connecting.

Inside the app are done-for-you creative programs curated by Creative Arts Therapists, 1:1 visit guides, printables, trainings, and ongoing support for teams working in dementia care and aging services.

This Monday, I’m hosting a free webinar where I’ll be sharing more about what Creative Care Club is, how it is supporting teams, what kinds of resources and training are included, and how it can make day-to-day programming much easier and more meaningful.

If you work in recreation, dementia care, senior living, or healthcare, I’d love to have you there! Comment “WEBINAR” or sign up directly at our link in bio!

Please join us in giving a very warm welcome to the newest addition to the MCC team, Linnea MacCullum!

Linnea graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor of Music Therapy and a minor in Psychology. She is a certified music therapist (MTA) and a Professional Affiliate (NMT™) of the Neurologic Music Therapy Academy.

Linnea specializes in working with older adults and individuals with developmental disabilities and dementia in both individual and group sessions. Her approach is person-centred, focusing on clients’ strengths and abilities while fostering a safe, welcoming, and creative space. She utilizes a variety of instruments, including guitar, piano, and voice, in musical experiences such as songwriting, improvisation, and familiar songs. In sessions, Linnea strives to create opportunities for clients to be fully present in the moment, exploring the musical space together without judgment or pressure for perfection.

We're incredibly happy to work with Linnea in serving our aging care community partners!

I’m excited to share that The Creative Carecast is officially live 🎙️

This podcast is a space to explore the intersection of creativity, care, and human connection — and how these elements shape the way we support others across healthcare, therapy, and beyond.

Episode 01 features a conversation with Ron Beleno, - where we discuss the role of mindset in caregiving, and how creativity can shift not just what we do, but how we show up.

This is something I’ve been wanting to build for a long time, and I’m looking forward to where these conversations lead.

Also — embracing the imperfections that come with starting something new!  Hope you can stick the journey out with me!
