Some stories remind us how far we’ve come, and how much work remains.

As Judy Heumann’s story reaches a new generation through film, we’re reflecting on the words and work of a disability rights leader who helped change the way the world thinks about equality, access, and inclusion.

Her message still resonates today: “It’s about fairness. It’s about equity of access.”

At Easter Seals Canada, we’re proud to carry that work forward, advocating for a more accessible Canada where people with disabilities can fully participate in their communities and in society.

With summer winding down and kids heading back to school, we’re saying goodbye to another amazing camp season.

To our incredible campers, counsellors, staff, volunteers, donors and partners: thank you for making camp possible and helping create a summer full of joy and possibility for kids, youth, and adults living with disabilities.

Not all disabilities are visible.

Disability can look different for everyone. Some disabilities are immediately apparent, while others may not be visible at all. These include neurological, cognitive, sensory, mental health, and chronic conditions that aren’t always immediately apparent.

For people living with invisible disabilities, it can sometimes be difficult to access the accommodations and support they need. Understanding, kindness, and inclusion can go a long way in helping everyone feel seen, respected, and supported.🌻

For many Canadians with disabilities or long-term conditions, getting from point A to point B can come with barriers that others may not see.

2025 data from Statistics Canada highlights the transportation challenges many travellers face, including barriers at stations and terminals, difficulties onboard vehicles, and a lack of needed supports or accommodations.

Creating a barrier-free Canada starts with listening to lived experiences and removing barriers so everyone can travel with independence and dignity.
