Congratulations to VHA's Responsive Community Care team on being selected as a recipient for the Senior Community Grant Program by the Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility!

The grant will facilitate the launch of VHA’s new Out and About program to support vulnerable seniors to attend medical, therapy, and post-surgical appointments, participate in social, wellness, and activation activities in or out of the home, and attend to essential errands while staying active, connected, and independent.

Kudos to all involved - we can't wait to see the program take shape! Stay tuned to learn more as this program develops.

When Carly finished school and was ready to start her career as an Occupational Therapist she chose to join VHA. She loved the flexibility that came with the job and how she was later able to transfer to the Champlain team in her hometown of Ottawa.

Recovering from a C-section while caring for a newborn can be an overwhelming challenge. When Grace needed support, Michelle, Child and Family Support Work, was there to help when she needed it most. Knowing her baby was in loving hands gave Grace the peace of mind to rest and recover faster than she expected.

Meet Aloha – A PSW whose been providing care to VHA clients for 13 years. For Aloha, the best part of the job is walking into her client’s homes and seeing them light up with a big smile as she enters the room.

“I have clients who tell me that my cheerfulness makes their day,” she says. “When I have clients for a long time, I’m able to build relationships with them and connect with them on a personal level. Having that connection with my clients is really important to me.”

Aloha links her interest in connecting with her clients back to her relationship with her grandparents. The care that she and her family members provided to them when they fell sick had a significant impact on her and influenced her decision to become a PSW.

Mercedes has been a PSW with VHA since 2009 and she still loves her job. She loves the connections she gets to make with her clients and the bonds she forms with her fellow colleagues.

“It’s never boring,” she proclaims. “Each day is different, with unique challenges. There’s always something new to learn.” For a lively individual like Mercedes, sharing these unique moments with her clients and building bonds that matter means a lot to her. It’s a big reason why she’s so dedicated to her career at VHA.

When asked what she would say to anyone considering a career at VHA, she says, “I would definitely recommend they apply. It’s a great atmosphere with a very supportive team.”

July 15 marks World Youth Skills Day – a day designated by the United Nations as a time to recognize the need for youth to develop innovative skills and prepare for a successful future.

VHA supports the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and youth empowerment through a number of practices and programs such as our preceptorship program.

Each year, VHA helps develop the next generation of healthcare providers by matching them with a healthcare professional who can provide mentorship and support as they grow in a real-world environment.

For the past 10 years, Edna has been a PSW at VHA. Edna takes pride in her work and is committed to delivering the best possible care to her clients. Her motto is, “When they’re happy, I’m happy.”

What first drew her to PSW work was her love of helping people. She particularly loves working with seniors. In her role, she gets to make a real difference in the lives of her clients by supporting them with daily tasks and helping them live independently in the comfort of their own homes.

Part of what’s kept her at VHA for so long is the feeling of camaraderie she gets from her team and supervisors. “Everyone here is so easy to work with,” she says. “It’s amazing.” For Edna, VHA is more than just a job. It’s a career where she can make a positive impact through the care she provides every day.
