SKIN IN THE GAME.

One thing that has shaped my practice more than anything is the idea that you can't just learn about movement — you have to experience it.

I started with yoga.

Then strength training. Mobility. FRC. Kinstretch. Massage therapy. And everything in between.

Each one has taught me something different about how the body moves and adapts.

The anatomy might be the same, but the experience isn't.

Knowing what a position feels like in your own body gives you another level of understanding when you're working with someone else.

That’s how I’ve tried to build my practice:

Learn from people smarter than me.
Experiment.
Get the reps.
Keep learning.
Then share what works.

Your Body Doesn't Need More Punishment.

Mobility shouldn't feel like a battle.

You don't need to force yourself into a stretch until it hurts. You don't need to smash every tight spot with a foam roller. And you don't need to spend 30 minutes trying to “fix” your body.

The Truth About Posture

Is your posture really causing your pain?

We hear it all the time:

"I have forward head posture."
"My shoulders are rounded."
"I slouch too much."

The truth is, there isn't one "perfect" posture.

Your body is designed to move—not stay in any one position for hours at a time.

Your best posture is your next posture.

Rather than chasing perfect alignment, focus on having the mobility, strength, and body awareness to move comfortably throughout your day.

One of the easiest ways to do that is with movement snacks—short bouts of movement that break up long periods of sitting or standing.

My favourite? Controlled Articular Rotations (CARs).

Build a Stronger Hollow Body

The hollow body is a super important position for handstands, L-sits, pull-ups, and gymnastics. Get comfortable with it before moving on.

Step 1: Flatten your lower back
Press your lower back into the floor and tuck your pelvis if you need to.

Step 2: Brace your core
Pull your ribs down and tighten your abs.

Step 3: Lift your shoulders
Lift your shoulder blades slightly while keeping your neck long. Only reach overhead if you can still keep your lower back flat.

Step 4: Progress by lever length

- Bent knees = easiest
- Move limbs away from the center = harder
- Straight legs + arms overhead = hardest

The longer your body gets, the harder the hollow body becomes. Only move up if you can keep your lower back pressed into the floor.

Quality always beats duration.

3 drills for more consistent kick-ups 🤸

A handstand isn't just about kicking harder. It's about building the strength, awareness, and control to arrive in balance.

1. Build compression strength
Develop strength through your abdominals and hip flexors so you can lift your legs with control instead of relying on momentum.

2. Find the stacked position
Learn the feeling of your hips over your shoulders and the shape you need at the top of your handstand. The more familiar this position becomes, the easier it is to find during your kick-up.

3. Practice kicking to an L
Instead of chasing the full handstand every time, practice stopping at an L-shape. This builds control, confidence, and consistency.

Strong Hamstrings Aren't Just Flexible. They're Active.

Many people spend time stretching their hamstrings but never learn how to use that new range of motion.

The goal isn't just to touch your toes, it's to own the range.

That's why we train:
✅ Passive Range Holds to build strength at your end range.
✅ Passive Range Lift-Offs to teach your hamstrings and hip flexors to actively control that flexibility.

Why do hip flexors matter?

When you lift your leg, your hip flexors need to be strong enough to actively pull it into that range. If they're weak, your body can only access that flexibility with external assistance, making it difficult to use during sport, exercise, or everyday movement.

Mobility isn't just about getting more range, it's about creating usable range that your nervous system trusts.

3 Benefits of L-Sit Training

The L-sit looks simple, but it develops strength, control, and mobility all at once.

1. Shoulder Stability
Holding an L-sit requires active depression and protraction of the shoulder blades (scapular control). This teaches you how to create a strong, stable shoulder position while supporting your bodyweight. An essential skill for handstands, push-ups, and overall upper-body strength.

2. Flexibility
A proper L-sit demands hamstring flexibility and compression through the hips. As you practice lifting and holding your legs, you'll develop active flexibility rather than simply relying on passive stretching.

3. Core Strength
Your entire core works overtime in an L-sit. The abdominals must resist spinal extension while the hip flexors actively hold the legs up. The result is a stronger, more functional core that carries over to everything from sports to daily movement.

The L-sit isn't just a core exercise, it's a full-body skill that builds strength, stability, and mobility at the same time.
