It actually didn't take Robert and Gregory very long to find their husband. In fact their love story began when they were just two adorable young men. Robert was 19 and Michael was 21. Thirteen years ago, in a small French-language program in Chicoutimi, Quebec, they arrived simply excited by the adventure of meeting new people and learning a new language, hardly expecting that they would find a friend who would become their forever person, their lifelong adventure partner.

I CAN'T STAY SILENT. Donald Trump said, "Anyone resisting data centers is stupid." And I'm starting to agree with him. We are stupid because we are not asking enough.

Today, I attended an AI for big businesses conference (I had the time, curiosity, and a weird level of sadomasculism for pain in the membrane. Don't judge me). It is happening people. The 1%, the Corporations, the rich, governments - are on an unstoppable AI freight train.

City Council is the lowest level of our governance as humans ( I'm not saying they are dumb, but they do not have the big picture itineraries our provincial and federal governments are mandated with) and yet...even Olivia Chow hummed and hawed during a debate about letting them build in our city.

Saying NO may be "stupid", or rather, pointless. But maybe it's time we say YES...and list our negotiating demands?

Zero-Liquid-Discharge (ZLD) & Air Cooling Only: A absolute ban on the use of potable municipal water for cooling.

Aquifer Depletion Penalty: A clause mandating that if local groundwater levels drop by even a fraction of a percent, the data center must shut down operations immediately until water levels naturally recover, with no right to sue the municipality for lost revenue.
*
100% Microgrid Independence: A requirement that the facility cannot pull a single megawatt from the public grid.
*
Negative Tax Incentives: Instead of giving tax breaks, the community charges an upfront infrastructure impact fee equal to 20% of the total build cost.
*
Ecosystem & Infrastructure Indemnity Escrow: The tech company must place $100 million+ into a perpetual, community-controlled escrow account.

Grid Over-Allocation Fine: If the data center's power consumption spikes and causes a surge in local energy market pricing, the operator must subsidize 100% of the price increase for every residential utility bill in the county.
