At Partners In Health, we call those the 5S's: staff, stuff, space, systems, and social support. Each of those plays an essential role—remove one, and it weakens the health system.

Regina Chingwalu was 14 when tuberculosis spread from her lungs into her spine. By the time a community health worker knocked on her door in Neno District, Malawi, she could no longer walk or stand.

TB is curable, and Regina’s infection was gone within a year of starting treatment. But TB found her before the health system did, and the damage to her spine was permanent. Even now, TB remains the world’s deadliest infectious disease.

That’s why Partners In Health, known in Malawi as Abwenzi Pa Za Umoyo, doesn’t stop at medicine. For Regina and her family, treatment came with physical therapy, food support, cash transfers, and a wheelchair.

Regina is back in school, what she’s planning next is the best part of her story:

Every year, millions of people face tuberculosis without knowing if help will reach them in time.

Partners In Health is working to change that. As a global leader in the fight against tuberculosis, PIH follows a community-based approach to care.

By meeting people where they are, PIH was able to achieve an 84% treatment success rate in the nine countries where it provided treatment.

Tuberculosis is curable. So why is it still killing more people than any other infectious disease?

On Guimaras Island in the Philippines, Partners In Health is working alongside the Government of the Philippines, John Green, and local partners to prove that another future is possible: one where TB is searched for, treated, and prevented before it can keep spreading.

That means mobile chest X-rays reaching communities across the island. Rapid diagnostics and treatment within days. Preventive therapy for close contacts. And the real infrastructure behind elimination: data systems, internet connectivity, tablets, trained teams, and accompaniment.

Hundreds of new people have joined us here recently, and we’re so glad you’re here. So we thought it would be a good moment for a (re)introduction!

We’re Partners In Health Canada: part of a global movement working to make high-quality health care a reality for everyone, everywhere.

That looks like long-term accompaniment, stronger health systems, community-led care, lifesaving maternal and newborn health services, TB advocacy, and the everyday work of showing up with and for our partners.

This is just a glimpse of what we’ve been building together.
