Your Appointment Is More Than a Time Slot. πŸ’›

Have you ever purchased a concert ticket or booked a flight and then couldn't make it?

In most cases, that seat was reserved for you, and the money you paid wasn't refunded simply because you couldn't attend. Now imagine if airlines and concert venues held every seat without payment, hoping everyone would show up.

That's essentially what happens when you book an appointment with your massage therapist or chiropractor.

When you reserve an appointment at Somata, that time is set aside exclusively for you. We don't double-book it, and we often turn away other clients who would have happily taken that appointment.

Unlike a concert ticket or flight, however, your appointment is typically reserved without requiring payment in advance.

When someone cancels with less than 24 hours' noticeβ€”or simply doesn't show upβ€”that time often cannot be filled.

And for your therapist, that means lost income.

Our practitioners are dedicated healthcare professionals whose livelihoods depend on the appointments they provide. They prepare for your visit, organize their schedules around their bookings, and commit that time to your care.

That's why we have a 24-hour cancellation policy.

It's not about penalizing someone for having a change of plans. We understand that life happens, children get sick, emergencies arise, and schedules sometimes fall apart.

It's about recognizing that reserved time has value, and giving us enough notice to offer that appointment to someone else who needs care.

When you provide adequate notice, you're doing more than helping our schedule run smoothly.

πŸ’› You're respecting your therapist's time and livelihood.
πŸ’› You're giving another client the opportunity to receive treatment.
πŸ’› You're helping us maintain a sustainable practice that continues to serve our community.

Thank you for supporting our team, respecting our cancellation policy, and helping us continue to provide the care our community deserves.

πŸŽƒ TRICK OR TREAT YOURSELF! πŸ‘»

A little effort. A little courage. A whole lot of reward!

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and kids everywhere will be stepping outside their comfort zones, dressing up, and earning their treats! 🍬

But who says kids should have all the rewards?

As adults, our rewards look a little different: less back pain, reduced neck and shoulder tension, better mobility, and more energy!

πŸ’ͺ Your Halloween Wellness Challenge:
Try adding 5 minutes of gentle movement to your day!

🧑 Cat-Cow Stretch: A simple movement that helps improve spinal mobility and ease stiffness through your back, neck, and shoulders.

Start on your hands and knees, slowly round your back toward the ceiling, then gently lower your belly while lifting your chest. Repeat 8–10 times, moving comfortably with your breath.

Because just like trick-or-treating, the reward comes from making the effort!

This Halloween, give yourself something better than candy: the gift of feeling good in your body.

πŸŽƒ Happy Halloween from Somata!

🌊 A Change of Scenery Can Change How You Feel 🌊

When was the last time you stepped outside with nowhere to be?

Not for exercise.
Not to run errands.
Not while answering emails or scrolling your phone.

Just to be outside.

Our nervous system is constantly responding to the environment around us. A change from screens, traffic, deadlines, and indoor spaces to fresh air, natural light, trees, water, and open space can create an opportunity to slow down and reconnect with what your body actually needs.

Try this the next time you head outside:

β€’ Leave your phone in your pocket
β€’ Take a few slow, deep breaths
β€’ Notice what you can hear around you
β€’ Look for something you wouldn't normally notice
β€’ Let your pace slow down
β€’ Spend a few minutes simply being where you are

And you don't need a long hike or a weekend away to do it.

🌿 Walk the trails around Caribou and take in the fresh air.
🌊 Head to Melmerby Beach and sit by the water, listening to the waves.
β˜• Grab a coffee from The Coffee Bean and enjoy it outside instead of rushing back to your day.
πŸ›οΈ Wander through a local shop, visit a favourite spot, or discover somewhere new in our community.

Sometimes wellness can be as simple as getting out of your usual environment and giving yourself a chance to notice where you are.

You don't have to add another thing to your routine.

Sometimes it's about giving yourself permission to experience your life. 🀍

🌿 Get outside. Look around. Take a breath. Be present.

Meet Dr. Alyssa Moraze πŸ’›

Healthcare is never one-size-fits-allβ€”and that's exactly why so many of our patients appreciate working with Dr. Alyssa.

As an integrative healthcare practitioner and chiropractor, Alyssa takes a comprehensive, whole-person approach to care. She understands that every patient arrives with their own unique history, goals, lifestyle, stressors, and experiences, and she believes that treatment should reflect that individuality.

What truly sets Alyssa apart is her ability to make people feel seen, heard, and comfortable from the moment they walk through the door. Her warm personality, compassionate nature, and genuine sense of humour help create an environment where patients can relax and feel supported throughout their care journey.

Patients often comment on Alyssa's intuitive understanding of the body. She has a remarkable ability to connect the dots, listen deeply, and identify what someone needs in that momentβ€” whether that's hands-on treatment, movement guidance, reassurance, education, or simply a space to be heard.

Her goal isn't just to address symptoms. It's to help people better understand their bodies, move with greater ease, and build sustainable habits that support long-term health and wellbeing. We feel incredibly fortunate to have Alyssa as part of the Somata team and our community is better for the care, wisdom, laughter, and compassion she brings to every patient interaction.

If you've had the opportunity to work with Dr. Alyssa, we'd love to hear what you appreciate most about her care. πŸ’›

Client Success Story | Jennifer's Journey

"When I first came to Somata, I was struggling with constant neck and back pain. I work at a desk all day and back then by the end of the day I felt stiff, sore, and exhausted. I was struggling to be active as I wanted to lose the baby weight I had been carrying for years but I couldn’t stay consistent because everything just seemed to hurt.

A colleague recommended I try massage and told me that Nissa at Somata helped her. I noticed a difference after the first session. Nissa explained things differently, giving me a new perspective on how to care for myself. After a few months of regular massages, I started noticing significant changes. My back didn’t hurt everyday, I noticed that the changes I made at my desk made me sit taller and have more energy during the day and for the first time in years I was able to go to the gym and feel good.

Two years later, I'm 50 pounds lighter, exercising is a way of life for me and I actually enjoy my job again because it doesn’t hurt to sit at my desk anymore (disclaimer I have a standing desk and highly recommend it, as was recommended to me by Nissa ;)

I am so grateful to have had the support of Nissa and her team at Somata and would highly recommend them!”

Thank you, Jennifer, for trusting us to be part of your journey. Stories like yours remind us that reducing pain isn't always the end goal, sometimes it's the first step toward creating a life that feels lighter, stronger, and more fulfilling.

πŸ‚ Thanksgiving is a good reminder of just how much there is to be grateful for. 🀎

The people who make us laugh.
The meals shared around the table.
The traditions we look forward to every year.
The walks, hikes, games, adventures, and everyday moments that make life feel full.

And the body that allows us to experience all of it.

We often don't think about everything our bodies do for us until something isn't working the way it should. But every day, our bodies are moving, adapting, recovering, supporting us, and allowing us to participate in the things we love.

✨ This Thanksgiving, we're grateful for:

β€’ The strength to stay active
β€’ The mobility to move through life with ease
β€’ The ability to explore and experience new things
β€’ The people who encourage us to take care of ourselves
β€’ Our clients who trust us to be part of their wellness journey
β€’ The incredible community we get to call home

Your body is a pretty amazing thing.

Take care of it. Challenge it. Move it. Nourish it. Give it the support it needs to keep doing what you love.

Because there's a lot of life worth showing up for. 🍁

From our Somata family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving! 🧑

You take approximately 20,000 breaths every day.

The question is: are those breaths helping you thrive, or simply helping you survive?

When we're stressed, overwhelmed, in pain, or rushing through life, our breathing often becomes shallow, rapid, and chest-dominant. Over time, this can contribute to increased
muscle tension, heightened stress responses, poor sleep, fatigue, jaw tension, headaches, and a nervous system that struggles to shift out of "fight or flight."

Breathwork is the intentional practice of using your breath to influence your nervous system, mental state, and physical wellbeing.
Research has shown that specific breathing practices can help:

βœ” Reduce stress and anxiety
βœ” Improve focus and mental clarity
βœ” Enhance sleep quality
βœ” Lower resting heart rate
βœ” Improve emotional regulation
βœ” Support recovery and performance
βœ” Create a greater sense of calm and resilience

One of the most powerful things about breathwork is that it is completely free, accessible anywhere, and available to you in every moment.

Sometimes the most powerful tool for changing how you feel isn't another supplement, treatment, or productivity hack.
Sometimes it's simply taking a better breath.

Did you know your body has an internal clock that influences everything from your energy levels and hormones to your sleep, recovery, digestion, and mood?

This clock is called your circadian rhythmβ€”a natural 24-hour cycle that helps regulate when you feel awake, alert, tired, and ready to rest. When your circadian rhythm is supported,
you tend to sleep more deeply, recover more efficiently, think more clearly, and experience more stable energy throughout the day.

πŸŒ… Morning Habits That Support Your Circadian Rhythm
β€’ Get outside within 30-60 minutes of waking and expose your eyes to natural sunlight for 5-15 minutes.
β€’ Move your body with a walk, stretching, or light exercise.
β€’ Eat a protein-rich breakfast to help signal wakefulness and support energy production.
β€’ Try to wake up at the same time each dayβ€”even on weekends.

πŸŒ™ Evening Habits That Support Better Sleep
β€’ Dim lights 1-2 hours before bed.
β€’ Limit screens or use blue light filters in the evening.
β€’ Avoid heavy meals, alcohol, and caffeine close to bedtime.
β€’ Create a calming bedtime routine such as reading, gentle stretching, breathwork, or a warm shower.
β€’ Aim to go to bed at a consistent time each night.
Small daily habits can have a powerful impact on your nervous system, recovery, immune function, and overall wellbeing.

Your body wants to work with youβ€”it just needs the right signals. ✨

✨Client Testimonial✨

β€œI recently had a 90-minute massage with Daniel and was genuinely blown away by the experience. He was incredibly thorough and seemed so attuned to where my body was holding tension. Nothing felt rushed, he took his time working through each area and unwinding the patterns of tension rather than simply moving from one body part to the next.

What stood out most was how deeply my entire system relaxed. At some point I slipped into that incredible space somewhere between awake and asleep, where you completely lose track of time. When the treatment ended, I honestly felt like I had been on the table for four hours, in the absolute best way.

Daniel has a remarkably intuitive touch, especially for someone so early in his career. The treatment felt therapeutic, intentional and deeply restorative all at once. I left feeling like my body had been thoroughly worked through, but also like my nervous system had completely reset.

If you carry a lot of tension, have a hard time truly relaxing, or love a massage therapist who takes their time and really listens to what your body is telling them, I would absolutely recommend booking with Daniel.”

πŸ‘‰ Daniel is happy to be offering care to new clients with evening availability.
πŸ‘‰ Online booking available and direct billing soon to come.
