Hidden Disabilities Sunflower - Canada

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower - Canada The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a globally recognised symbol for non-apparent disabilities

08/06/2026

“I wore my Hidden Disabilities Sunflower for the first time to go and see Harry Styles and I’m sooo glad I did. Having an invisible condition like endometriosis and being neurodivergent means I rarely feel confident in seeking support when I need it, because I don’t *look* like I need it.

The impact this has had on me as an adult is huge: I’m incredibly anxious and rarely leave the house. However, wearing the Sunflower to navigate public transport and London gave me so much confidence to take my time, stress less and ACTUALLY enjoy myself - which is such a wild difference to how I usually feel.

If you feel like you would benefit from having a Sunflower, I hope this gives you the confidence to wear one because I am so grateful that I can now begin to navigate the world with more confidence and support.”

Today, we're raising awareness for World Brain Day 🌻

Brain conditions and brain injuries can affect anyone, at any stage of life. For many people, the impact isn't always visible and can affect memory, concentration, communication, fatigue, mobility, emotions, and everyday activities.

At Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, we're proud to support greater awareness, understanding, and inclusion for people living with brain injuries and neurological conditions, and for those who support them.

Sometimes, a little extra time, patience, and kindness can make all the difference.

Living with MND taught me this:
“your challenges can become your superpower. I went from a busy orthodontist to racing against
time, but I choose to focus on what I can do, not what I’ve lost.”
When facing a diagnosis like MND, it's easy to feel isolated. But community, support, and a positive
mindset can help turn despair into hope.
“I’ve learned that even in the toughest times, love and connection make a difference.”
By Jon Machel.

“Systems aren’t really built for us.”

In this episode of The Sunflower Conversations, Courtney Rosato shares her lived experience of being AuDHD (autistic and ADHD), navigating life, education and work before receiving a later diagnosis.

Courtney speaks honestly about:
• Feeling different growing up
• Navigating life undiagnosed
• Misunderstandings around autism and ADHD
• Why neurodivergent people don’t “struggle with change” in the way many assume
• The importance of clear communication and supportive environments
• How small adjustments can make everyday life easier

One moment that really stands out is Courtney saying:

“It’s not that we struggle with change, it’s that we struggle with unclear, unsupportive change and vague feedback.”

Whether you’re neurodivergent yourself, supporting someone you care about, or simply want to better understand autism and ADHD, this episode is full of honest insight and lived experience.
