: Meet Gordana

Meet Gordana Mosher, Manager of Accessibility Services & Engagement, who has been part of the Wavefront Centre team for almost five years!

Gordana works alongside a dedicated team to raise awareness, break down communication barriers, and create solutions that help make spaces and experiences more accessible for everyone.

What Gordana enjoys most about her work is meeting people who share a commitment to making public spaces more accessible. She also values the opportunity to bring her personal and professional experience and knowledge of Deaf culture to her work, bringing people together and helping create positive change in our communities.

And a fun fact about Gordana: she loves to bake! She has published two cookbooks, including one more than 20 years ago that is still selling today!

We’re grateful to have Gordana as part of the Wavefront Centre team and to celebrate the experience, knowledge, and passion she brings to making our communities more accessible.

: Expanding access in healthcare

As part of our year-long celebration of Wavefront Centre’s 70th anniversary, we’re looking back at the programs and services that helped advance communication accessibility over the decades.

This newspaper clipping from the 1990s marks the early years of Medical Interpreting Services (MIS) at the Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The program helped improve communication access for Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing people navigating healthcare and demonstrated the importance of accessible communication in medical settings.

It’s one chapter in a much larger history of our organization working alongside the community to advance more accessible and inclusive services.

Free bike repair workshop with ASL interpretation!

Deaf community members and ASL signers are invited to learn the basics of bike repair and maintenance in an accessible, hands-on workshop.

Friday, September 25
6:30–9:00 p.m.
VCC - Vancouver Community College, Broadway Campus
Cost: Free

Learn how brakes, gears and bearings work, get basic maintenance tips and practice fixing a flat tire. Participants will also receive tire levers and a patch kit to take home.

: Meet Brenda

Meet Dr. Brenda P**n, Senior Research Fellow and Lead of Community Research, who has been part of the Wavefront Centre team for eight years.

Brenda is passionate about finding ways to make services and community spaces easier for people and their families to navigate and access. Through her work, she supports community, government, industry, and service organizations in finding evidence-based ways to improve accessibility and measure the impact of their programs.

What Brenda enjoys most about her work is the people she gets to work with every day. She is especially proud to be part of a research team that helps organizations turn evidence into meaningful improvements in accessibility, programs, and services.

A fun fact about Brenda: outside of work, she loves taking neighbourhood strolls with her family, especially the four-legged members!

We’re grateful to have Brenda as part of the Wavefront Centre team and to celebrate the knowledge, experience, and passion she brings to our Community Research work.

Wavefront Centre's Accessibility Services team helps organizations create better communication access for Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing people.

We offer ASL interpreting and translation, VRI, captioning, accessibility technology, planning and advisory support, and accessible event coordination combining services to create practical solutions for each client, environment and audience.

Accessibility Services is also a Wavefront Centre social enterprise. Revenue generated through these services is reinvested in our community programs, extending the impact of every project.
