Every year the team and residents from Berwick Royal Oak visits Salt Spring Island twice. For those that look forward to the small town shopping and lunch at a local restaurant, this year being Moby's Pub, the team took the trip in July.

Last month residents at Berwick Royal Oak took a day trip to Salt Spring which involved a picnic lunch at Ruckle Park with time for a walk to enjoy the natural beauty of the provincial park!

Then residents went to the historic Ruckle Farm with its old farm buildings, antique equipment, and rafter of turkeys. The Royal Oak team and residents rounded out the day with a quick stop at the Goat Farm where most residents enjoyed some goat milk ice cream. Residents look forward to this trip every year!

What an incredible day at the Berwick Family Carnival at Berwick on the Park!

We had so much fun celebrating with our amazing families and community! From the dunk tank and face painting to all the games, laughter, and entertainment, there was something for everyone. And of course, it wouldn’t be a carnival without all the delicious treats. We enjoyed cotton candy, corn dogs, popcorn, ice cream, and so much more.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out, brought their friends and family, and supported our Freeze Athletics Cheer Team. Your generosity, smiles, and enthusiasm helped make this event such a huge success. We are so grateful to everyone who helped make the day possible.

This past June, Community Relations Manager, Karen, at Berwick Comox Valley organized a Bikes and Burgers event to raise funds for Sahar who is continuing her education in Victoria.

The leader from UN NATO Veterans Bikers Club came and they were wonderful. They offered to help organize a larger fundraiser next year where bikers go to the Berwick communities from Campbell River, Comox, Parksville, and Qualicum Beach so we can raise more funds. Karen plans to get this event organized for July next year!

Milestone worth celebrating: we're nearly at full occupancy at our latest community, Berwick Parksville. Friday, August 28th, our community came together to mark it, not just the number, but everything behind it.

A community is made up of the people who live there and the people who work there. This one is growing by the persistent hard work of our Community Relations team, and the support and operational excellence that only happens when the rest of our management team and front line team members work together.

It takes a village, plus our residents, to have a community thrive and flourish.
Last Friday was full of joy, energy, and a truly wonderful group of people. Thank you to everyone, management, front line teams, and residents alike, who made it possible.

🧇 National Waffle Day was a great success with our residents at our Berwick Communities. 🧇

Delicious waffles were enjoyed by our residents who had a homemade waffle breakfast at Berwick on the Park and a chef pop-up waffle breakfast at Berwick Parksville to name a couple!

Berwick Comox Valley residents had a fabulous trip with the Big Canoe Charter at Comox Lake Watershed! This guided tour had residents exploring past, present and emerging stories of the Comox Lake Watershed.

Residents deepened their connection to this beautiful lake while paddling in a voyageur-style canoe. The two canoes were lashed together as a “dualie", resembling an outrigger canoe for extra stability. Everyone participated, both team members and residents with an addition of Active Living Manager, Ashley's own children!

Our new program, Palate Puzzle, was a great success at Berwick Qualicum Beach!

Qualicum residents tried mystery chip flavours in July and a double blind Nanaimo Bar Taste Test in August for BC Day. The Active Living team purchased two bars from local bakeries and the chefs made one as well. Our team had a score card and more than 30 residents and team members participated in the vote. The Berwick Qualicum team are pleased to announce that their homemade bars won by a landslide!

The Berwick by the Sea team rented a BBQ roaster and ordered a whole pig from Gunter Brothers Meat Co. Berwick Qualicum Beach Strings & Sings Ukulele Group entertained residents on the Bowling Green while the pig roasted in the sun. One resident asked, "Can we do this every summer?"

Executive Chef Stephanie Martinolich called it a highlight of her year, working with local vendors, working with Active Living to pull together the luau decorations, and having neighboring residents perform on their ukuleles.

Rib fest was a tremendous success at Berwick on the Park!

Senior Hospitality Manager, Nathan at Berwick on the Park shares his appreciation of this amazing event below:

"Each year Kamloops is a host city for RibFest, and about 5 years ago we decided to start hosting our own version of Berwick RibFest here that brings the team and the residents together in participation."

"We have 3 teams 'register' and come up with team names and each team has between 3 - 6 people on it, and they come up with a BBQ Sauce recipe that gets delivered to the Executive Chef and then they replicate it and increase to feed up to 40 people."

"Once the 3 teams are signed up and recipes submitted, then the day of Berwick RibFest the kitchen team then cooks and preps the 3 teams' ribs and serve up sample portions for the residents that sign up to participate and we hold it in the Bear's Den. The ribs are separated into 3 different containers to prevent mixing and then they are assigned a colour by the chef which will be marked by toothpick. Chef will also prepare a couple of sides to go with the ribs (this year was house made biscuits and coleslaw), and then the residents eat lunch with their samples."

"When the residents are finished each resident will vote for their favourite rib by marking the colour coded paper to match their preferred rib. Then the Active Living team will tally the votes and announce the winning team and who the team members are on that team who then receive a small price. We then take the winning recipe and will use that sauce for a rib night for the whole dining room to enjoy, or in the bistro depending."

A special shout-out to Senior Hospitality Manager, Nathan, and Executive Chef, Jason, at Berwick on the Park for organizing and preparing such a wonderful feast for our annual Rib fest!
