The drastic hormone changes can cause a variety of disturbances, seemingly overnight, from digestive, elimination (IBS is common), skin issues, sleep issues, anxiety, depression, extreme mood swings, weight gain, histamine intolerance, even the ability to metabolize alcohol is affected.
Be extra gentle with yourself during this time, incorporate self care habits, create better sleep hygiene, go to bed around the same time every night, wake up around the same time every morning to maximize melatonin production (very important to prevent histamine dumping at night), aim for morning sunlight to balance your circadian rhythm.
There are some importantly nutrients to consider during this transition:
Vitamin B1- to support hypothalamus (controls all bodily functions; mood, body temperature, s*x drive)
Vitamin B6- supports DAO production (the enzyme that breaks down histamine)
Vitamin B9- lower homocysteine (inflammatory marker)
Vitamin B12- support neurological health
Omega 3- anti inflammatory
Magnesium- relaxation, responsible for 400 enzymatic actions in the body
Vitamin D3- immune health, pro hormone
