Most couples enter marriage believing they have found the right person.
What they often discover is that marriage is not simply about finding someone who makes them happy. It is also about discovering parts of themselves they did not know were there.
In the early years, attraction does much of the work. We notice the qualities we admire, the similarities we share, and the dreams we hope to build together.
As the years pass, something deeper begins to emerge.
We encounter each other's fears, insecurities, disappointments, and protective habits. The arguments themselves are rarely the whole story. More often, conflict reveals where we struggle to remain open when we feel hurt, misunderstood, or afraid.
Marriage has a way of gently exposing the places where we still need to grow in patience, humility, forgiveness, and trust.
This is not a sign that something is wrong.
It may be a sign that love is doing its work.
The goal of marriage is not perfection. It is learning, day by day, how to become a person who is more capable of loving another human being well.
