Matteo and Giulia travelled from Regina Elena National Cancer Institute in Rome to Estonia – and no, it wasn't just to experience our famous summer weather (read: rain ☔️).

The highlight of their visit was a seminar at Põhja-Eesti Regionaalhaigla, where Matteo shared his expertise and insights with healthcare professionals about the practical implementation of NGS-based oncology diagnostics in clinical workflows.

Thank you to everyone who attended. We strongly believe that sharing knowledge across institutions and learning how colleagues in different countries approach similar challenges helps inspire new ideas and ultimately contributes to better outcomes for patients.

🎓 Success isn't always about taking the easiest path.

For our colleague Vjacheslav, the past few years have been a journey of balancing work, studies, and continuous growth.

Alongside his role at Lanmer, he completed his master's degree in bioengineering at the University of Tartu, culminating in the successful defense of his thesis this week.

Reflecting on the experience, Vjacheslav describes it as both challenging and rewarding:

"Joining Lanmer during my studies made the period more intense, but also much more valuable. There were many new situations and challenges to solve. At the same time, that's exactly what made the experience exciting. Without challenges, life would be much more boring."

While a PhD may be part of the future, his focus right now is on gaining practical experience, developing his expertise, and continuing to grow professionally.

Congratulations, Vjacheslav, on this important milestone!

Some people celebrate birthdays with cake. Kent celebrated his on stage at Deep Tech Investor Day.

A quick capture before discussing the future of cancer cure development together with an incredible panel.

Happy birthday, Kent, and thank you for bringing curiosity, energy and good conversations wherever you go!

From breakfast to pubs – apparently some of the most valuable conversations at Latitude59 side events happen somewhere between coffee and beer.

After a full day across biotech, circular economy and deep-tech discussions in Tallinn, a few things became very clear:

🍄 Food biotech in the New Nordics is accelerating fast.

What used to feel like a niche sustainability topic is increasingly becoming a serious industrial opportunity, especially around local feedstocks, alternative production models and reducing dependency on imported inputs.

⚡ Circular economy is no longer just about waste reduction.

It is increasingly tied to resilience and energy sovereignty. Encouraging to see strong alignment between policymakers and the deep-tech community on these topics.

🚀 Deep-tech spin-outs need a stronger Nordic-Baltic ex*****on model.

The discussion around Aalto University’s recent spin-out development model was especially interesting – particularly the reported 80% baseline sustainability rate for deep-tech spin-outs. That is the kind of benchmark Estonia and the wider Baltic region should study carefully.
..

As Kent Langel reflected, the New Nordics have a real opportunity to connect biotech, food innovation, circular industry, energy resilience and deep-tech commercialization into one coherent industrial strategy.

The ingredients are increasingly visible: strong research capabilities, growing policy alignment, ambitious founders, active investors, and a broader understanding that deep-tech ecosystems require long-term design — not isolated projects.

Now the real question is how quickly this momentum can be transformed into scalable companies, regional value chains and internationally competitive platforms.

Last week, Tarmo from Lanmer Distro spent four busy days together with Thermo Fisher Scientific scientists Gizem Gül, İlknur ÇILDIR, and Jevgenij Varsavskij, who came to Estonia to lead qPCR and dPCR trainings.

The trainings took place at several institutes of the University of Tartu and the Eesti Maaülikool/Estonian University of Life Sciences and brought together more than 60 students, researchers, and professors.

What stood out most was the genuine interest and curiosity throughout the week — auditoriums were full, discussions continued after the presentations, and practical workshops sparked plenty of questions and shared experiences.

In addition to the theory sessions, participants had the chance to work hands-on with 384-well plate protocols and learn small but important tricks for avoiding air bubbles in experiments – something every lab person has probably struggled with at some point 😅.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make these trainings happen: Kristiina Mark, Maire Pihlap, Triinu Visnapuu, and Mikk Espenberg.

And for those who already have new questions or ideas — the next training sessions are planned for autumn.

Behind every medical breakthrough is years of research, testing and collaboration.

🔬On Clinical Trials Day, we want to recognize the researchers, healthcare professionals and volunteers who help turn innovation into real treatments that improve lives every day.

Progress in healthcare starts with people willing to move science forward.

Thank you to everyone contributing to a healthier future!

Deep Tech Atelier ✅.

What a great day in Riga it truly was! Met so many open-minded people in so many interesting levels.

The fireside chat “The Missing Link(s): What Bio Founders Need to Succeed” was especially enjoyable thanks to the discussion with Magdalena Kulczycka, PhD and Kristaps Klavins, PhD.

Next up on the agenda: the official Latitude59 side event Biotech Innovation Estonia 2026 on May 20.

See you there?

This week, we had a great reason to attend an event in our hometown Tartu as well – the Future Frontiers: PhD Conference on Emerging Technologies 2026, organised by TÜ tehnoloogiainstituut.

The conference brought together PhD students and supervisors from the fields of engineering, biotechnology, physics, chemistry, and material science.

Kent from Lanmer went to check it out, and according to him, it was especially exciting to see familiar methodologies from his PhD days and how much both the methods themselves and the research quality of the University of Tartu Institute of Technology research groups have evolved over the past 10 years.

April marked Lanmer CRO’s second birthday 🎂!

For a company that’s still technically a toddler by age, the past year has brought a lot of growth, learning, and exciting new collaborations.

Lanmer CRO was built to be a flexible expert partner capable of supporting sponsors from early development all the way to clinical trial ex*****on.

Over the past year, we’ve continued building a strong network across Europe and beyond, working with everyone from established pharmaceutical companies to biotech innovators and early-stage startups looking for hands-on expertise and reliable support.

We’re grateful for the people, partnerships, and trust that have shaped our journey so far — and excited to see what year two will bring.
