The ICFO Organization and Network of Students (ICONS) Apart from them, our home institute ICFO offers us support to develop our activities.

The ICFO Organization and Network of Students (ICONS) is composed mainly by PhD students that promote optics and photonics within the general public, but also pursues activities for the professional development of its members. We are consolidated as Student Chapter of important institutions in the field of optics and physics as the OPTICA (formerly OSA), the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) and the European Physical Society (EPS).

A little throwback to the ! 🔭 🌟

Back in September, we had the chance to participate in La Nit de la Recerca at CosmoCaixa.

We put together a few board games to show that learning about science can be fun, interactive and accessible to everyone 🎲✨

It was so much fun seeing everyone get involved, especially the youngest participants! 🥹 We were genuinely impressed by everyone’s creativity and the ideas they came up with during the games. It was a great reminder that science is fun, specially when we can share it at events like this.

A big thank you to everyone who helped designing the games, to the people that stopped by our stand, to the organizers, and to CosmoCaixa for hosting this event.

We’re also grateful to ICFO and EPS for supporting us and helping us take part in experiences like this! 🫶

Last Friday, ICONS hosted an incredible talk by Giacomo Bartolucci on “The phase behaviour of Cacio e Pepe pasta sauce” 🍝

The project, which earned him and his collaborators the Ig Nobel Prize in Physics 🏆 showed how curiosity-driven research can turn everyday phenomena into meaningful and entertaining scientific questions. And, judging by his stories and videos from the ceremony, into one of the most fun award nights in science.

A huge thank you to Giacomo for sharing his work, his enthusiasm, and for reminding us that science can be both rigorous and fun. And thanks to everyone who joined us for the event! ❤️
