Reasons why I do and don’t run.

I DON’T run to burn off what I ate or drank.

Or to earn calories.
Or use it as a reason to deserve or reward myself with ‘a treat’ 🍷🍩 unless it’s new kit 😂.

But I DO run because..

I LOVE it 😍
It’s the only time I’m able to be truly present with just myself & my thoughts.
Especially when I’m outside and in nature or exploring new areas.

I love the feeling when my heart rate starts increasing and I find my rhythm from the movement.

It genuinely makes me feel SO good.

And the feeling of accomplishment & self pride when you finish.

Run because you enjoy it.
Not because you think you have to. Find movement you enjoy and do it often.

My running essentials QLVR trainers and MAAREE | Sports Bras bra. Both are stylish, supportive & high performance.

This is what progress looks like when you keep going.

Not just because she’s stronger, fitter and performing better. although she absolutely is!

But because of the confidence Mia’s built along the way.

When we first started working together, Mia felt self conscious in the gym. She didn’t feel confident using the free weights area and was nervous about trying heavier weights.

Fast forward to yesterday and she’s just completed her 5th hybrid event and 2nd Mixed Doubles, taking on the male weights and coming away feeling stronger, fitter and faster than before.

In her own words…

“When I think back to last year, I couldn’t even do all the female weights when I started training for my first hybrid event… and now I’ve completed the male weights! It really shows how consistent training pays off.”

And she’s absolutely right.

This hasn’t happened overnight. And it hasn’t happened because Mia has endless amounts of time to train.

She’s a paramedic working demanding shifts, which means training, nutrition, sleep and recovery don’t always fit neatly into her week.

But she continues to find a way to prioritise her health and her training.

Not perfectly. But consistently.
And THAT is what you’re seeing here.

Yes, she’s become stronger.
“But she’s also become more confident, more capable and more willing to challenge herself and see what she can do.

She feels better in herself, believes in herself more and is doing things now that she once wouldn’t have had the confidence to even try.

And THAT is what’s it all about.

Well done Mia! Im incredibly proud of you ☺️.

Thinking about starting strength training but already worrying about everything you DON’T know?

It can feel overwhelming when you’re new to it.

What weights should I use?
What exercises should I do?
Am I doing enough?
What is everyone else doing?

But you really don’t need to have all the answers before you start.

Keep it simple. Start where you are. Learn as you go.

And remember, everyone you see confidently strength training now was a beginner once too.

If you want a little more help getting started, listen to my strong healthy happy podcast-

There’s SO much more to progress than what you can see in a progress photo.

Andrea has only been coaching with me for a couple of months and yes, physically she’s already making brilliant progress.

And other people are noticing it too. She’s been receiving lots of compliments recently, which of course feels lovely when you’ve been working hard and starting to see those changes yourself.

But that’s only part of the progress I’m seeing.

She’s getting stronger. She’s challenging herself in the gym. She’s building confidence and starting to see what she’s capable of.

She’s also learning how to make progress without feeling like she has to be perfect.

She can go out for a meal, enjoy herself, make choices about what she really wants and then simply carry on afterwards.

No “I’ve blown it now.”
No need to compensate for it.
No waiting until Monday to start again.

And then there are moments like the gym selfie she sent me recently.

Andrea hadn’t felt confident enough to train in just a sports bra and leggings without covering herself up for years.

THAT matters.

Because yes, Andrea wants to change how she looks. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

But alongside those physical changes, she’s becoming stronger, more confident and more capable while navigating a particularly challenging time in her personal life.

This is when it’s most important. Being able to look after yourself doesn’t have to stop when life gets difficult. It’s when you need it most.

That’s what makes this progress even more meaningful 💙.

We’re only a couple of months in and I’m really excited to see where she goes from here.

Well done Andrea, you should be incredibly proud of yourself!

Another brilliant hybrid experience shared with friends and a client who deserves her own post because of the HUGE progress she’s made 🙌.

But for now, this one’s about me and my mixed doubles partner… my husband.

We did GYMRACE together for the first time back in March and today we knocked 6 minutes OFF our time!

Stronger. Fitter. Faster.

And that’s exactly what we felt out there today.

Great teamwork, we had each other’s backs throughout and we’re both SO happy with how we performed.

I love that we have something we can train for and work towards together. But I also love being able to look back at where we were only six months ago and see that we’ve actually got better.

That’s what training is about for me.

Not standing still.
Not trying to be who I was 10 or 20 years ago.

But seeing what I’m capable of and continuing to improve.

Feeling pretty pleased with ourselves.

Debra 😄

He wanted to spend more time with me…
I’m not sure this is what he had in mind.

He entered the world of hybrid training with me, despite having never been a runner and never having trained like this before.

But today is event no.2!

We’ve worked hard, we’re feeling, stronger, fitter & faster.

And probably still wondering how I talked him into it.

Proving that age isn’t a barrier to trying something new and surprising yourself with what you’re capable of.

Now let’s see what we can do today!

I will ALWAYS champion women.

Whether they’re my clients, women who follow me here, or quite literally someone I end up chatting to randomly in the street or on a dog walk.

I want women to feel empowered to take control of their health, strength and happiness.

To believe in themselves, even when they doubt themselves.

To realise they’re not stuck.

That how they feel now is CHANGEABLE.

And that they’re capable of far more than they sometimes give themselves credit for.

And these messages just confirm what I already know and believe.

I love seeing women challenge themselves, get stronger, take better care of themselves and start believing they’re capable of more.

Because sometimes we need somebody else to believe in us before we quite believe it ourselves.

And if sharing what I do helps another woman think...

“Maybe I could do that too.”

Then I’ll keep sharing 💙

Supplements can absolutely have their place.

But they shouldn’t be where all your attention goes especially if you’re not yet consistent when the basic fundamentals.

Your nutrition.
Protein.
Fruit and vegetables.
Exercise.
Sleep.
Your alcohol intake.

These are the things I’d want you putting your time and energy into first.

It’s about learning to get these basics right more often.

Then we can look at whether there’s anything else that might be useful to add.

Or, as I prefer to put it…

Make the cake before worrying about the sprinkles 🎂.

Do you have a question about a supplement. Let me know below 👇
