# A Story of Courage, Resilience and Inspiration – Leah Barker
At Baldwin Therapy, we are incredibly proud of our Therapy Assistant, Leah Barker.
Just a few years ago, Leah was like any other 19-year-old. She was enjoying life, spending time with friends and family, and looking forward to the future. Healthy, active, and with the world at her feet, she had no reason to imagine that her life was about to change forever.
Then, without warning, Leah collapsed and was rushed to hospital, where she received the devastating diagnosis of a AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation)
In an instant, life changed not only for Leah but for her entire family.
What followed was a journey that would test the strength, courage, and determination of everyone around her. Leah underwent a number of complex brain surgeries. Each operation brought uncertainty, fear, and new challenges. Yet every single time, Leah faced them with remarkable bravery and resilience.
While many would have been overwhelmed by the obstacles in front of them, Leah chose to keep moving forward. With the unwavering support of her family, she fought through every setback, every recovery, and every challenge that came her way.
Just as life seemed to be getting back on track, Leah received more heartbreaking news — she would need yet another brain surgery. Naturally, there were fears and worries, but those who know Leah knew exactly what she would do. She faced the challenge head-on, with the same courage, determination, and positivity that had carried her through before.
Earlier this year, Leah underwent her eighth brain surgery, which was a success. Today, she is back behind the wheel, embracing life, and looking forward to the future with the same determination and positivity that have carried her through every challenge.
Today, we are delighted to say that Leah is back doing what she loves most — making a difference in the lives of children and families as part of the Baldwin Therapy team.
Alongside her loyal sidekick, Nancy, our wonderful therapy dog, Leah brings warmth, compassion, understanding, and encouragement to every child she meets.
Perhaps what makes Leah so special is that she truly understands what it means to overcome adversity. Her own experiences have given her a level of empathy and compassion that cannot be taught. She inspires children to believe in themselves, to keep trying when things feel difficult, and to celebrate every achievement, no matter how small.
Children are naturally drawn to Leah's kind and caring nature, while Nancy provides comfort, confidence, and motivation during therapy sessions. Together, they create a safe and supportive environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive.
Leah's journey is a powerful reminder that resilience is not about never facing difficulties; it is about finding the strength to keep going despite them.
She is living proof that setbacks do not define us — our determination to overcome them does.
Leah, your courage inspires us all. We are incredibly proud to have you as part of the Baldwin Therapy family, and we know that the children and families you support are fortunate to have you and Nancy by their side.
Welcome back, Leah and Nancy. You are both exactly where you belong.
