I see carer burn out a lot in my day to day. It needs to be recognised as a health issue!!!

Imagine working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

No guaranteed breaks. No sick leave. No annual leave. No retirement date.

Your physical safety is sometimes at risk.

Your sleep is constantly interrupted.

Your career, financial security, relationships and health are slowly disappearing.

And when you finally reach breaking point, someone tells you to practise self-care.

Welcome to the reality of countless special needs parents.

We talk about the right to rest. The right to health. The right to safety. The right to an adequate standard of living.

These are BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS.

Yet somehow, we’ve normalised disability parents going without them for years. Sometimes decades.

And here’s what really pi**es me off.

We celebrate these parents for being resilient. We call them superheroes. We tell them how amazing they are.

While they’re quietly falling apart.

Our disabled children deserve every bit of care, dignity, inclusion and support they’re entitled to.

SO DO THE PEOPLE CARING FOR THEM.

A system that relies on parents sacrificing their own health and wellbeing to keep their children safe is a system that desperately needs to change.

We need to start treating carer burnout as a serious health and human rights issue, rather than an inevitable part of special needs parenting.

It’s fast approaching that big C word which means only one thing. SHOPPING.

So my wee buddy will be circulating around the area once again selling his keyrings that he’s making, with donations going to Mikeysline this year.
Suggested donation minimum £2.50.

We will be heading over to Bridgend Primary School Fayre (Alness) 5-8pm which is on Thursday 26th Nov. With us this year we will have ceramic tree decorations, £3 without personalisation &
£3.50 with personalisation, see below.

We will also be raffling off both these stunning lights, winter cottage and the igloo with the penguin £1 per strip.

We are looking for a very special person to join our team.
The requirements are very specific due to the nature of support delivered.

The individual should be sensible, have a caring & compassionate nature with a great sense of humour. They require to be able to cook & tend to household chores.
The delivery of personal care to an elderly gentleman, whilst having knowledge of dementia would be beneficial but is not required as essential.
Both gentleman & lady require support but this role is predominantly for the gentleman.

Hours are Sat & Sun throughout the day & evening. Support based in Alness.
