✨ Always carrying tension in your shoulders, neck or back? Let’s talk about cupping.

That constant tightness that never quite seems to go away… 👀

Whether it’s from sitting at a desk, training hard, poor recovery or everyday stress, persistent muscle tension can leave you feeling stiff, restricted and uncomfortable.

So, where can cupping help? 🤍

Cupping uses specially designed cups to create gentle suction on the skin. This lifts the tissue rather than compressing it, helping to temporarily increase local blood flow and potentially ease feelings of muscle tightness.

✨ It may help with:
• Persistent neck and shoulder tension
• Tight, overworked muscles
• Post-training muscle soreness
• Feeling stiff or restricted through your back
• Supporting your recovery routine

But here’s the important bit…

You don’t have to wait until your muscles are screaming at you to do something about them!

As a sports therapist, I can assess your areas of tension and help you find an approach that suits your body and your needs.

🤍 DOES A STRETCH HAVE TO HURT TO WORK?

Short answer: absolutely not!

That feeling of needing to stretch harder because a muscle feels tight? You might not be helping as much as you think.

💡 Here’s what to know:

✨ Stretching should feel like a gentle pull, not pain.
✨ Forcing yourself deeper into a stretch doesn’t automatically mean better results.
✨ If a muscle constantly feels tight, stretching alone might not address what’s contributing to the problem.
✨ Strength, movement habits and training load can all play a role in how your body feels.

Your body doesn’t always need you to push harder. Sometimes it needs a different approach. 💪

Got an area that always feels tight, no matter how much you stretch it?

It might be time to look beyond the stretch.

✨ Message me to discuss how sports therapy could help you move more comfortably.

The stretch I probably prescribe more than any other… THE COUCH STRETCH!

If you’ve ever been treated by me, there’s a good chance I’ve recommended this one to you! 😂

But why do I love it so much?

👉 It targets your hip flexors and quadriceps — areas that can feel tight, particularly if you spend lots of time sitting, running, cycling or training.

When these muscles feel restricted, you might notice discomfort around the front of your hips, chronic lower back pain.

How to do it:
✨Place your back knee on the floor close to a sofa or wall.
✨Rest your shin and foot against the sofa.
✨Bring your other foot forward into a half-kneeling position.
✨Gently tuck your pelvis under and squeeze your glutes.
✨Stay tall and breathe — you should feel a stretch through the front of your hip and thigh.

⏱️ Aim for 45-60 seconds on each side, without forcing the stretch.

⚠️ A little tip: Don’t just arch your lower back to get further into the stretch. Keep your ribs stacked over your pelvis and let the stretch do its job!

Remember, feeling tight doesn’t always mean a muscle needs stretching. The right approach depends on what’s causing your symptoms.

Save this post for your next mobility session and give it a try!

Having persistent tightness, restricted movement or an ache that keeps coming back? Sometimes it’s worth looking beyond the area that feels tight.

Your body gives you warning signs before bigger issues, don’t ignore them!
Being proactive is far better than being reactive 🫶🏻

Do any of these ring true to you?

1- Shoulders sitting up by your ears
✨ you are holding chronic tension from lifestyle and desk posture which can lead to headaches, stiffness and reduced range of movement

2- your lower back is achey and stiff after prolonged sitting
✨ Hip flexors become shortened and tight after long periods sitting at your desk and this pulls through to your lower back. But with regular stretching and massage release this doesn’t have to become the norm.

3- Recovering slowly from every workout
✨ post exercise recovery is taking way longer it used to

4- A reduced range of movement and flexibility
✨ You notice a reduce range of movement in your joints and limbs in your daily activities and movements

This is your sign to stop ignoring them. Get in touch with me today to book your next appointment 🥰🫶🏻✨

What is a knot?

When a knot forms a small section of muscle fibres get stuck in a partially contracted state without fully relaxing.
This restricts the blood flow to the muscle fibres and stops the waste products from being released.

These can cause tenderness and radiating pain to the surrounding tissues.

When we apply pressure, known as trigger point release, it forces the tissue to relax and release.

DRY CUPPING 🫧

Ever wondered what those little cups actually do?

Dry cupping is a therapy technique where cups are placed onto the skin, creating a gentle vacuum.

It can be used alongside hands-on treatment to help:

✨ Increase local circulation
✨ Reduce the feeling of muscle tightness
✨ Encourage relaxation of tense muscles
✨ Improve how an area feels and moves
✨ Complement other soft-tissue techniques

It can be particularly useful when an area feels tight, restricted or overloaded.

The marks left behind are caused by the suction drawing blood towards the surface of the skin. They aren’t bruises in the traditional sense and typically fade within a week or so ✨
Curious whether cupping could be useful for you?
