Chestnut Tree House is a children's charity providing hospice care and community support for children with life-limiting conditions and their families in East and West Sussex and South East Hampshire. Thanks to support from the local community children and families who know they don’t have long together have the chance to live life to the full and say goodbye in the way that is right for them. On a visit to the House, kids can be astronauts for the day in the multi-sensory room, discover creepy crawlies on a woodland walk, or form their very own pop group in the music room. It is a place where parents can just be parents, and not carers, and where siblings have people to talk to who understand. As well as care provided at the House, there is a Community Nursing Team who visit families at home, taking children out to explore their local community or simply giving tired families and carers the chance to take a well-earned break. Then, when the time comes, we help families say goodbye, in whatever way feels right for them, at home or in the hospice itself. They offer ongoing bereavement support for the whole family. The generosity of the local community makes this happen. It costs over £5 million every year to provide hospice care for local children, with only 17% of this coming from government funding. You can show your support by fundraising, volunteering, taking part in a challenge event, playing the Chestnut Tree House lottery, or leaving a gift in your will.

Kai could say so much with just a look. His eyes and smile spoke a million words. 💛

Kai was diagnosed with a life-shortening brain condition at just five months old. He was only expected to live to the age of two. But he defied expectations and lived until he was six and a half.

Chestnut Tree House helped fill those short years with love, laughter, and special moments, from line dancing to high-speed boat rides! The family could also enjoy Kai's favourite activity, swimming in the hydrotherapy pool.

In the last weeks of Kai’s life, Chestnut welcomed the whole family with open arms. Here, Sara and Leanne could just be mummies to Kai and his sister Aya. They treasured the little moments together, from sharing meals to lying next to Kai in a specially adapted cuddle bed.

Last month, over 500 people gathered in Worthing to join us for Night to Remember 2026! ⭐

The numbers are in. Together, the Night to Remember 2026 walkers have raised an incredible £71,926 for local hospice care across Chestnut Tree House, Martlets, and St Barnabas House.

We’re delighted to share that our proud long-time supporters Pumpkin Patch Nursery have generously funded a full day of care. 💛

But that’s not all, today 6 staff members are setting off on the adventure of a lifetime as they begin our China Trek!🚶‍♀️🌏

Together, Anita O'Hara, Elizabeth Odero, Alice Coles, Matthew Shanahan, Hollie Trott, Molly Stevenson have raised £22,000, covering the cost of their trip while also raising vital funds for Chestnut Tree House. Every pound raised helps us continue to provide specialist care and support to children, young people, and their families.

Good luck to our China trekkers! 🥾

This weekend, an incredible group of 15 trekkers will be setting off to take on an unforgettable challenge along the Great Wall of China, all while raising vital funds for our hospices.

You may even spot a familiar face in our fantastic group!

Elizabeth Odero, who appeared in the 2025 series of Race Across the World alongside her sister, is heading back to China. Having started their race at the Great Wall of China but not had the opportunity to walk along it, Elizabeth is returning to complete that journey!

The team at Chestnut Tree House is getting ready to welcome families for today’s special gathering to mark the beautiful Wave of Light – a moment of remembrance in dedicated to all those who died too soon. Together, families can draw comfort from others who have experienced this uniquely painful loss.

Pictured, Community Senior Nurse Karen helps tie ribbons to a special tree at the hospice where families will gather.

She said: “Today is all about remembering, not only our loved ones, but that we are not alone in these times of grief. Being together, we hope this brings comfort, knowing there are others out there who understand.”

This week is – a time to remember and send love out to all those affected by the loss of a child, whether during pregnancy, at birth, or shortly afterwards.

This coming Thursday, families around the world will join in the ‘Wave of Light’ – a moment of solidarity and remembrance. Together, we'll light a candle and remember those much-loved and missed babies.
