Attunement doesn't happen in one big moment.

It grows through everyday interactions:
๐Ÿ‘€ Making eye contact
๐Ÿ˜Š Sharing smiles
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Talking and singing
๐Ÿค— Offering comfort
๐ŸŽฎ Playing together

These small moments help babies learn that they are seen, understood and valued.

This Infant Mental Health Awareness Week, take a moment to slow down, tune in and connect.

Before babies learn words, they communicate through cries, facial expressions, movements and sounds.

Attunement means paying attention to these signals and responding with care.

When a baby learns that someone notices and responds to their needs, they begin to feel safe in the world and secure in their relationships.

Every cuddle, smile, conversation and comforting touch helps build that foundation.

Infant Mental Health Awareness Week: 8th June 2026 - 12th June 2026

This yearโ€™s theme is ATTUNEMENT.

A is for ATTENTION

Attunement starts with noticing.

Attunement doesnโ€™t mean doing things โ€œperfectlyโ€. It starts with paying attention to your baby or child - noticing their facial expressions, body movements, sounds, and changes in mood.

Attention is about really seeing your child - not just what theyโ€™re doing, but how they might be feeling.

Todayโ€™s invitation is to spend a few minutes simply watching your child:
- noticing when your baby turns away and pausing
- sensing when your toddler might be becoming frustrated or tired
- spotting excitement and sharing it together

Even a few moments of full attention can make a big difference.
You donโ€™t need to be available all the time - just enough of the time.

Say hello to our Oldham Parent Infant Mental Health Service.
