For Our Children
Give them their rights
the right to follow the forest path
the right to roam and stretch and bend like limbs on a tree and spurt growth to bear leaves.
Give them the right to run barefoot bruise knees, gather crooked sticks and shiny stones, climb trees, like magpies, let them find their lifetime treasure and bury it in their very cells.Let them out of their cages.
Let them hear the language of flowers, tell them of their hunter gatherer ancestors who knew the sacred truths and how to walk this earth.Let them listen to the symphony of bird song.Tell them the story of sand and have them build their castles and not be frightened to let them dissolve on the tide for everything has eternal life.Assault them with scents lavender honeysuckle and mint.Teach them they are already rich and of the medicine in a country ditch. The true stories of the worth in nettles dandelion plantain and meadowsweet.
Of the sacred soil beneath their feet and how to grow the very food they eat.Let them feel the wonder around them steep them in it, have them listen for grass hoppers on hot days and tell them of the magnificence of dragon flies.
Outside they will find all subject areas that somehow became subjected, sanitised behind cement walls. But there is something primal, a quintessential inner call in the human soul
that will find a hammer or a feather strong enough to collapse a wall, for it is true
βSomething there is that doesnβt love a wall
That sends the frozen ground swell under it
and spills the upper boulders to the sunβ
(Mending Wall by Robert Frost)
Call it what you will, throw open the closed doors and let them loose on the magic and wonder of mother nature and truly nurture the child.Return their birthright and with it their wholeness their oneness with life for we must all pass on as we pass by.πππ»
