(312)

Barnsley Hospice is a charity (reg number 700586) providing specialist palliative and end of life care for people living with a life-limiting illness and those close to them. Our main priority is to achieve the best possible quality of life for patients with a life limiting diseases, whilst supporting their families, during periods of illness and at the end of life. As a specialist care provider,

the range of skills we offer include, pain and symptom management, emotional support and bereavement support. We are a charity - our care is free for patients but not free to provide. We are funded through an NHS grant, plus the generous donations and fundraising efforts of our community and supporters. Please note, we care for patients at home, in the community and at the hospice. We care for patients with all life-limiting illnesses - not just cancer. And, we support patients' families and those close to them too.

Tomorrow, we are delighted to officially open our Wings of Memory art installation in the Walled Gardens at Cannon Hall. The installation will see hundreds of handcrafted dragonflies, each representing a memory of a loved one, transforming the gardens into a peaceful place of reflection.

Before the official opening to the public, we held a preview event today for those who have been instrumental in the development of our dragonfly appeal. We were pleased to welcome local artist, George Fell, who handcrafted each dragonfly, and the Mayor of Barnsley, who learnt more about the hard work and compassion that went into it.

Our dragonflies have now all been dedicated, helping to raise over Β£40,000 to help the hospice provide specialist palliative and end of life care to local people. To put this into perspective, this is equivalent to funding all our hospice services for four days – showing the difference our community makes.

We would like to say a huge thank you again to our sponsors Smart Door Solutions Ltd, Glass Recycling UK and Haywood & Padgett for helping to make this appeal possible. Our heartfelt thanks also go to Cannon Hall Gardens for hosting the installation.

You can view the dragonflies every day, 10 am - 4 pm until 20 August.

πŸ“Έ Thank you so much to Daniel Berry Photography for these incredible photos and for capturing the beauty of this installation.

To mark the second anniversary of her Cancer diagnosis, Jo wanted to make a difference and support Barnsley Hospice in providing care to those living with a life-limiting illness.

Along with a group of incredible friends, Jo completed a 12-mile walk along the Leeds/Liverpool Canal, and by doing so, raised an absolutely fantastic total of Β£3193.49!

We are blown away by the fundraising efforts of Jo and her friends and are so proud to have supporters like these helping to keep our care going. Thank you! 🧑
