You don’t always need to see your GP or visit the Emergency Unit for urgent eye problems. 👁️

High street opticians run a range of NHS services and can diagnose, manage and treat eye conditions directly in-store.

A local optometrist can offer an urgent eye examination if you’re experiencing minor eye injuries, red or infected eyes, a foreign body in the eye or sudden changes in vision.

An urgent eye examination is more in-depth than a routine sight test and is completely free under the NHS.

Next time you require urgent eye care, phone or walk into your closest opticians to receive expert and convenient care in the community.

Many community pharmacists across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan are independent prescribers.

This means that you can go directly to your local pharmacy and be assessed by a prescribing pharmacist for common conditions such as ear infections, sore throats and skin conditions. The pharmacist, if appropriate, can prescribe medication without you needing to contact your GP practice.

To find Community Pharmacies offering the service near you, visit the NHS 111 Wales site, click on Services and select ‘Independent Prescribing for Common Ailments and Contraception’ in the filter column along with your postcode. This will also tell you how to check for availability as you may need to phone ahead or book an appointment online. 🔗 ⬇️

Yesterday evening, one of our mental health practitioners attended Men's corner group to deliver a talk on men’s mental health.

Men’s corner provides a welcoming space where men can come together connect with others share experiences and access support in a relaxed environment.

Conversations like these help breakdown stigma encourage openness and remind people that support is available when it’s needed💙

🅿️ Important notice for those attending University Hospital of Wales on Saturday 6th June:

The lifts in the main multistorey car park, as well as the pedestrian crossing directly outside the car park, will be out of service from 9am to 11am to allow essential maintenance work to take place. The lifts will be restored as soon as the work is complete.

Please take extra care when crossing the road. If you are able to use the stairs, we kindly ask that you park on the upper levels so that ground‑level spaces remain available for patients and visitors who need them.
