Recently seen the increase shakes, bars all aimed at young individuals.
Whole foods have to be the go to for protein. Most young individuals will get enough protein from a balanced diet. Heavy use of protein shakes can strain developing kidneys. Bone growth and miss out on carbohydrates and micronutrients required for overall development.
Whole foods :- 🐟, 🥚, 🐔, 🥩, beans and pulses. They add fibre, healthy fats and vitamins.
Chewing is important as it allows digestive enzymes to extract the maximum amount of nutrients while preventing digestive discomfort like bloating and indigestion.
Saliva reduces acids, supports enamel and strengthens teeth and jawbone.
Whole foods supports bone growth.
Downside requires preparation and planning.
Shakes...
Whey and plant powder.
Lacks micronutrients and sometimes fibre..
Liquid meals don't satisfy hunger and the digestive system not working fully.
Added colouring, sweeteners and fillers.
No prep time required but can be expensive.
