How did Dr Emma Haynes find her path into perinatal psychotherapy?

Emma is a UKCP-registered psychotherapist and author specialising in perinatal mental health. Her doctoral research explored treatments for mothers experiencing perinatal psychological distress, and she is the author of Motherhood and Mental Illness (Routledge).

In this conversation, Emma shares how a placement in a Mother & Baby Unit revealed a significant gap in psychological support for women experiencing severe perinatal mental health difficulties — a discovery that would shape her future clinical practice, research, teaching, and writing.

We’re pleased to share that our four-year psychotherapy training pathway is delivered at Master’s level — Level 7 within England’s Education Frameworks (in Scotland it is Level 11).

The training is aligned with the QAA Benchmark Statements for Level 7 / Master’s level Counselling and Psychotherapy Training, reflecting the depth, complexity, and advanced clinical standards embedded within contemporary psychotherapeutic practice.

This development represents an important step in supporting high professional standards across counselling and psychotherapy training and practice.
