George Scott Funeral Services

George Scott Funeral Services Family-run funeral directors serving Bournemouth, Poole and beyond. Sensitive, personal, attention to detail support - always here when you need us.

A brief history...
In 1899, Bournemouth was at the peak of its fastest period of growth in its history; the train had not long arrived, and a population explosion saw the town expand from just 695 residents in 1851 to more than 60,000 by the turn of the century. It was against this backdrop that George Henry Scott established in 1899 what was to become one of the area's leading funeral directors.

The company was, in 1914, honoured with the contract to carry out the funerals of members of the armed forces who had died within the Borough during the 1914-1918 conflict, an honour that was repeated in 1939-1945, and a sure sign of the esteem and respect this family-run funeral service had already established even at this early stage. George was joined by his son Harold in 1928 and Harold's wife Lettice joined after their marriage. They were succeeded in 1965 by their son Hugh, who, together with his wife Judith, set about expanding the company, the main highlight of which was the opening, in 1986, of a second funeral home in Kinson to serve the northern part of the borough and neighbouring Poole, Ferndown and Wimborne. Hugh and Judith's second son, Neil, joined the family funeral service in 1989, the fourth generation of the Scott family to uphold the family tradition, instigating further expansion in 1999 with the refurbishment of all the company's premises and the construction of two brand new, state-of-the-art chapels in Wimborne Rd. From the outset, George Scott's goal has been to make what is, after all, one of the most difficult, painful and daunting times for anyone – the loss of a loved one – just that little bit easier through kindness, warmth, consideration, sensitivity and sheer professionalism. We aim to put you at ease and take away some of the worry and stress that can overshadow times like these so that you can mourn your loved one with appropriate dignity and respect. This has been, and still is, the George Scott tradition - of offering a truly caring and professional service. The care and service we provide today...

Rituals matter. Whether it's lighting a candle, reading a poem, sharing a favourite song, or planting a tree 🌱 rituals give us a way to mark important moments and process emotion.

In grief, rituals are powerful.
They create structure when everything feels chaotic.
They bring people together.
They honour the person we've lost.
They help us move forward while staying connected to their memory.

At George Scott, we help families create meaningful rituals - both during the service and in the months and years after. Because healing happens in these moments of intentional remembrance. πŸ’™

A gentle reminder today πŸ‘‰ the people you love, the moments you're living, the everyday joys, these are your real wealth.

Don't wait to appreciate them.
Don't wait to say the things that matter.
Don't wait to cherish what's right in front of you.

Life's greatest abundance isn't in what we have, it's in who we have, and how we show up for them.

Appreciate. Cherish. Love. That's enough. That's everything. πŸ’™

Where should the service be? Wherever feels right for you. 🫢

Some families choose our beautiful Kinson chapel. Others prefer a local church, a crematorium chapel, or even a meaningful outdoor space. Some choose a celebration of life in a community hall or garden.

The venue should reflect your loved one and your family's wishes.

At George Scott, we're not limited to one location.

We work with venues across Bournemouth and Poole, and we can help you find the perfect space for your farewell.

Your service, your way. That's our approach. πŸ’™

As one season ends, another begins. β˜€οΈ
As May comes to an end and summer begins to appear on the horizon, it can feel like a natural time for reflection and renewal.
Longer days and warmer weather often bring people together, but they can also highlight what has changed.

If you have lost someone this year, summer may feel bittersweet.

Beautiful moments can be tinged with the absence of someone you love.
Or it may be a time of gentle healing, of taking small steps forward while still holding their memory close.
There is no right way to feel, and no set timeline for grief. πŸ’”

Whatever this season brings for you, please know that George Scott is here.
We are here to listen, to support, and to help you navigate the months ahead.

If you would like guidance, or ideas for meaningful ways to remember and reflect, we will walk alongside you.
Your grief is valid. Your love is lasting. And you are never alone.

What legacy do you want to leave?
It's a big question, but an important one β†’ What do you want to be remembered for? πŸ’ž

Your kindness? Your humour? Your work ethic?
The way you made people feel?
Your passions? Your values?
The difference you made in someone's life?

Thinking about legacy is clarifying. It helps us live with intention. It reminds us what matters.

And when it comes time for your farewell, thinking about legacy helps us create a service that truly captures who you were and what you meant to people. It helps your family celebrate not just your life, but your impact. ❀️

At George Scott, we believe every life leaves a legacy. And every legacy deserves to be cherished.

Someone once said, "Grief is love with nowhere to go." We think that's profound. Because when someone we love dies, that love doesn't disappear. It just needs a new way to be expressed.

A funeral service is one way. A memorial gathering is another. Planting a tree in their memory. Donating to a cause they cared about. Telling their stories. Creating a memory box. Lighting a candle on their birthday.

At George Scott, we help families find ways to channel that love, to create rituals and moments that keep their memory alive and allow grief to be expressed beautifully.

Your love for them doesn't end. It just transforms. And we're here to help you find the right way to honour that.
